bianfuxia
Hello, I built this and a few other ships in the "In the Navy" group build a little while ago. I thought you all might be interested in case you hadn't taken part in that GB. This is the 1960s JMSDF Harusame destroyer. I really like this little ship. There's something cool about the era just before guided missiles - ships with essentially WW2 armament but with modern (for the 50s/60s) sensors. According to wikipedia, it was designed with ASW in mind but came with such a heavy gun armament that it did pretty well at anti-air so was used as an all purpose destroyer. I built it in its later configuration with the modern triple torpedo mounts midships and the big variable depth sonar at the back. Apart from that it has the three big 5 inch guns and a pair of twin 3-inch AA mounts (the forward one has a weather shield). Harusame served right through the Cold War - 1959-1989. This is the awesome 1/700 Skywave kit. Here you see it patrolling the calm seas of my go-to display base for ships - an old blue bath towel... Hope you like it.
spejic
I don't believe this particular kit comes with walkway decals. How did you paint the walkways on your ship? What paints did you use overall? I agree about doing the later fit. The towed array in the back is a eyecatcher, and I don't think the kit depth charge side launchers are very convincing. The deck has raised detail for those walkways so it's pretty easy to just paint between the lines. I use a magnifying glass (the kind that attaches to your eye a bit like eyeglasses - that is, you wear them like regular glasses but only the right eye has a lens and it's super powerful. I don't remember the actual colours I used, but all my ship builds lately have been done with Vallejo acrylics, brush painted. I never know what shades to use, and pictures of the same ship vary so much depending on the light, and then there's scale colour to consider too so I just go for what seems right at the time! Vallejo has a bunch of greys and I think I have them all.
