would not the vehicle deck have equally rusted away as the sea water got in

 I guess it's down to interpretation. All I will say is that the deck allegedly could take a 30 ton tank so the deck is probably the thickest material on the boat.

Tank deck, first attempt

I'm not sure..... seems a bit muddy. This was done over a grey primer

So I tried a white base

Two coats of light rust

P1110463

Selective application of Medium rust

P1110466

P1110467

Dark rust

P1110471

P1110474

Old rust

P1110476

P1110477

Probably a bit light at the moment but the time it's been further weathered I'm sure it will darken down.

Your thoughts?

Really shaping  rusting up Kev I think it will all depend on the final setting and atmosphere you want to show sunny day will the top areas be lighter and the lower areas still in some water be darker and a dull wet day all areas darker but with a sheen on it from the rain   :hmmm:

Work continues...

Lifting points scratch built and added.  longitudinals added to hull. Take deck fillers added 0.75mm each side. Surprising on a kit thats 47 years old. Definitely showing its age. To get a reasonably accurate pristine model you would have to scratch build all fixtures and fittings

Still a ways to go with the rust but I'm happy with how it's going......

Better start think about the display base.

Gidday Kev, at the risk of repeating others, it's looking very authentic and neglected. Sometime it's disheartening seeing things go back to nature, ie Ashes to ashes, rust to rust, or something along that vein. Regards, Jeff.

At least you don't have to worry about over-doing the weathering

Excellent work Kev, looking forward to seeing how you mount it to display

How rude! I'm doing my best. The moulds are nearly as old as you :tease:

The corrosion and rusting are excellent, particularly close-in, where the subtle details really stand out.

I thought you would be crying after the beautiful job you did of yours

Thank you all for your kind comments and likes they do help me along.....

I did look back to see if this was the HB kit as your current treatment is arguably the best choice for it ;)

We now have a control position, well we would have if someone hadn't liberated the instruments and wheel.  The two spade grips are the throttle/ forward/reverse controls. The lever for ramp control

P1110509

Lots of weathering to be done but as the house was made of high tensile steel it will be different to the hull (I hope)

I've been giving some thought to the dio. The US 29th Infantry Division left the Falmouth / Helford river for D Day. So I'm thinking lost and forgotten (after her duty was done) up a small creek in the area.
