Over-weathered A6M5 Zero Fighter Zeke 1/72 Tamiya

Recommended Posts

Then disaster struck, after building halfway I realized that I am missing the nose!  I searched everywhere and realized its not included in the box!

I wrote to Tamiya and fortunately they agreed to mail me a replacement.  THANK YOU TAMIYA!

The detail for this model is really nice and refined.  A great kit.

The weathering looks great.

I think you need to dirty it up a bit though.

There are lots of paint chips and wear, but not much dirt...

Smoke, dust and oil stains are easy to apply with powder and oils and will tie the whle plane together.

Great effort on a great kit.

Great build with nice detail all around. And yes, you earned a seat in the club of weathering freaks.

This one was not weathered but sprayed over with dark green later. The heavily weathered ones are usually to be seen after VJ day when they didn't receive the care anymore that IJN personnel were expected to extend to their combat planes.

Great model, I'm glad you've weathered the interior too! If the exterior is weathered, the interior will be too!

If there's one area that may be over weathered it's the control surfaces, IIRC, these were fabric covered, not metal so they wouldn't show silver through weathering.

It's worth getting an understanding of what the materials the component is made of before applying any weathering.

Very, very nice and (as others have pointed out) the weathering is not necessarily overstated.

I've read great things about this kit and your work certainly does it justice.

Inspires me to consider this kit for my stash.

Thanks for the tip.  Will bear this in mind.

Go get it.  Its the best zero kit in 1/72 scale in my opinion.

The Tamiya series of A6M`s are my favorite kits in 72nd scale.  The molds are perfect and outstanding replicas can be created such as this one.  Heavily weathered Zeroes look great and this captures that appearance with precision.  I like it!!!!!!! :goodjob:
