Anatol Pigwa
@Marlin beat me by announcing his intended double build of Luftwaffe Tornados equipped with MW-1 and B-61 first, however I still have an ace up my sleve: a GR.1 Tornado armed with one (or two?) WE. 177. Both of the markings in the Revell box (the 9th and the 17th Sqn) are well suited for this task. I am wondering about the rest of the loadout though: Shall I use the Hindenburg tanks, or three of the smaller ones? I imagine it depends if I want to put one or two nukes under the belly? Apart from the nuke(s) what other armament would make sense - could I slap ALARMs on the underwing pylons or should Sindewinders be the only sensible choice? Also on a semi related note (as it may limit the availiability of the special weapons for this project) - could the SEPECAT Jaguar T.2/T.4 double seaters carry nukes or were those only restricted to the GR.1 variant? helios16v
I could be mistaken, but I believe the ALARMs may have been part of the GR.4 upgrade suite, and not applicable to the GR.1. I'll let the Tonka specialists clarify. A couple of sidewinders for self defense on extraction would seem reasonable for a loadout addition. Alarms were first carried by GR1s on Op Telic, initially on the underside of the inner wing pylon and then under the fuselage.

Op GRANBY actually. Gulf War 1, 1991, over 100 missiles fired. Edited September 15, 2020 by Sundowner14

I don't think the GR.1s started carrying the big tanks until Op Granby, by which time they were coming to the end of their association with the WE177. Although the latter were withdrawn in 1998 so I guess there was an overlap... Don't think ALARMs would be carried with WE177s, entirely different missions. Sidewinders probably a more realistic choice. Al

Yes sorry that is actually what I meant, got my Ops mixed up. No GR1s on Op Telic.
Colin W
Good to have you joining Anatol. I agree with Al, It would seem unlikely that any Strategic tasking with a Nuke would include tctical weapons like Alarm. Sidewinders to clear the way in are more likely. Anatol Pigwa
Alas, then it will be either Sindwinders or only the Nuke on its own.
