exdraken
Does this help? http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/aircraft/past/1306-sukhoi-7.html#gsc.tab=0 Warriors? Killers? Tigersharks?
RidgeRunner
Thanks mate but that was my first port of call. I appreciate the thought, though. Martin

Martin I searched the Fitter bible... and it only came up with the same photo...but no squadron... .
RidgeRunner
Hmmm .... I’ve tried those squadrons but the patch on that nose doesn’t appear to match any of those I have references for .... I need Phil Camp!
CT7567
Interesting mystery, I've got no references that match this badge either. Doesn't appear to correspond to any of the six line squadrons that operated the Fitter or an obvious non-frontline unit like ASTE. For those with the original photo is there any caption or other info that might assist the search (date, location, etc)?
exdraken
after searching for more, I came up with this: possible some predecessor to these here: http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/images/crests/TACDE.jpg http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Galleries/Patches/Qualifications/ seems to be some special marking or a special unit... or this one? http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Galleries/Patches/Crests/2232-Crest.jpg.html

Shorty84
Hi, maybe it was the Tactics and Combat Development and Training Establishment (TACDE): https://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/units/squadrons/13-tacde.html#1971 If you comare their badge (a winged torch with crossed swords at the bottom) and compare it with the blurry picture it looks like it could match. According to the link they developed combat tactics and even flew combat sorties against Pakistan using MiG-21s and Su-7s. Cheers Markus Edit: Ooops, I see @exdraken has already mentioned this possibility. Sorry, will teach me to read before writing. RidgeRunner
Thanks chaps and, if correct, it solves my TACDE mystery (see my first post In my WIP). In fact my MiG-21FL, when I get to it, will be TACDE :). Certainly the TACDE operated a number of Su-7s with at least one featuring in combat records.
