1/72 Airfix Typhoon

Hi Folks,

Hope we are all keeping well.

Have had a bit of a lull in the mojo as of late so fancied an easy build to get me back into the swing of things. I picked up the Airfix starter set Typhoon as thought this would be a good and quick build. I dont ever build in 72nd, 48th is my go to scale, it was tricky to step down a scale.

The build itself was OK, struggled with eradicating some pesky seams but managed to get there in the end. Paints used were Tamiya thinned with Self levelling thinners- camo was done freehand to try something different. That was an interesting experience. Weathered with oils and a flory dark dirt wash.

Build was completely OOB

Your opening comments gave no hint to how good it would look!

What a superb job!

My preferred scale is 1/72 and yet one could be forgiven for thinking you've been a 1/72 guy all along.

👍👍👍👍

Very neat and nice model! Paint work and weathering are great. Freehand worked really well!

Also I think Airfix really did a perfect job covering a lot of wwii subjects with it's simple and fairly good models that look well OOB and can serve as a good basis for aftermarket users.

Terrific. Makes me want to build another one.

Have to admit I'd probably build another one. But the other boxing of it.

I do like the typhoon/ tempest family and could be swayed with a 48th one

That's a cracking job - I'm terrified of 1/72 scale too, but this example could easily fool the casual observer think that it was your scale of choice.  The kit looks good - the Heath Robinson strengthening doodahs on the tail are represented well, by the looks of things.

I think you've really done it proud.
