Quiet Mike
Hot on the heels of the MkI Blenheim RFI, is the belated Mk.I Spitfire that preceded it on the workbench, finished 6 months ago. Today's soft overcast light was ideal again, and all the tools I'd used for the Blenheim shoot were still handy. This conversion was mainly based on the 2010 mould of the 1:48 Mk.I Spitfire that I picked up cheap-ish second hand. (I was told the Mk.V Spit makes a better candidate for this conversion) The transfers were the Xtradecal ones. Again, this recent Airfix kit went together easily, great for a relative newbie to the hobby to cut his teeth on. I've lived in Southampton for years, and there is a ton of aviation heritage locally on the South Coast here, and having the prototype Spitfire to display on the shelf has always been high on the wish list. Old Man
This is really sweet, Sir. The scheme is new to me, but quite nice. It makes me wonder if it influenced Airfix the use blue plastic for their first Spitfire kit.

Quiet Mike
Thanks everyone. While several members suggested making the last variant Spitfire would be a fantastic comparison stablemate to this, I'm more tempted to see if a prototype Hurricane could be converted! This was a great kit to convert, and I'm really looking forward to making the other Mk.I Spit up in it's prewar RAF 19 Sqn guise, from 1938. With that in mind, the 2015 mould is superior in a lot of ways to this 2010 variant. But one deficiency is that it does not include the first pattern flat top canopy. If anyone has a spare kicking around in their stash, I'd really appreciate it! (The 2015 has the next pattern canopy, with flat sides, but curved top.) woody37
I thought I hadn’t seen this cross the line. Great to see it finished, superb result
jackroadkill
What a beauty; those gorgeous lines never looked better than on the prototype. She's a lovely model, Mike. A prototype Hurricane would be an ideal companion, I think.

Newbie(kinda)
Just gorgeous. I've always wanted a model of K5054 and would rather not go down the resin route if I can avoid it. So, deep breath, I've bookmarked your WIP and fully intend to copy it shamelessly. Love it! 1

It gives good results for a fairly low budget approach. I picked up the kit second hand for around £15 from memory, and the decal sheet is under a tenner too. I think the main sticking point is the windscreen, it's just a bit too chunky, and I can't see a way around that, unless you make your own. It was easier for me to work with what I had, as I have zero experience making canopies. You'll see from the WIP thread I also did some shameless copying! There is some great info out there, and I linked all those I robbed ideas from 😉
