T-54A 1:35 (Type 59) Takom

Hello, everyone.

I hope it's not too late to start a topic here. I built the Type 59 tank from Takom some time ago and now it's ready to paint. I added Friulmodel Tracks for better reflect tracks placement on road wheels, typical for T-54, T-55 tanks.

After painting and adding decals it should be T-54 and look similar to those in the photo below :)

Nice clean build, good call on the tracks.

If doing a T54/55 I think the Takom one is the one I'd be tempted by, little more builder friendly than the Miniart version, imo.

I assume it went together without and issues?

Looking forward to seeing it painted.

Cheers

You got me. This is exactly why I chose this kit. Pretty good detail without a thousand parts - simple and quick to build as I wanted.

Looking great ...very clean and tidy....and good choice with the fruil tracks they always add just that extra something to a model.

With you entirely on that one, some people do superb work with the full interior T55 but I'd sooner spend the time elsewhere or starting another build.

However if they can do the Minart version then full credit to them as it can look amazing.

Cheers

very nice build - looking forward to seeing this with paint on. I plumped for the Miniart version with interior... must be mad 😉

You said it Rob! Have you started it yet?

Rather you than me.

Good luck all the same.

nope - still awaiting delivery... plan is probably to start it at the beginning of next year and take it slow, interspersed with finishing others and may be some simpler builds

I painted it today :) . I started with Mr Finishing surfacer Black and then added highlights / shadows with white.

Then I covered it with heavily diluted Protective K from AK (RC). Of course, I will paint the details with a brighter color.

Even the version without the interior is too much for me ... ;) Good luck!

Thanks guys but I made a fallstart with painting. In the T-54 the front of the hull was welded differently than in the Type 59, so I had to fill the old weld and make a new one. Also, the color seems too bright for a tank of the Polish People's Army during this period of time. It will be painted anew with a different color.

Even better second time around!

It is noticeably darker this time, aesthetically I quite liked the lighter colour but as you say the darker shade is more realistic. Great paintwork in both cases.

Looks a really nice kit, just ordered Takoms Iraqi type 69 so looking forward to having a go myself.

Thanks. You're right that it's dark and I think it's even too dark so I'll have to be careful with weathering.

I added decals, painted mantlet cover and sprayed all over Tamiya Flat Earth from the distance to make it brighter and make a background for further weathering. And finally, gloss clear varnish again.

Heavily thinned Tamiya Buff is quite good for that to.

The paint effect on the mantlet is excellent btw.

I added some oils and matt varnish and finally it got brighter :yahoo: Also the light during shooting is better this time. I will add more dust pigments to make the dust a little more interesting and some darker streaks on the turret and front of the hull.
