neil5208
I now have 5 Harrier's in my display case, (1 AV8A, GR3 x 2, GR9 and AV8B+2) but I need Spanish, Italian and Thai Harriers to complete the line up. So I started another Airfix GR1 kit for the AV1 Matador variant, this will be done using the CTA decal sheet. I have another GR3 kit so I can do the Thai aircraft. Should be a fairly quick build compared to the Eduard Fw190's I been working on. Cockpit, intakes, wing and fuselage already together. Martian
An interesting take on the Harrier, I am intrigued to see what you make of it. Martian 👽
neil5208
Wings, tail, seat and HUD fitted this morning. The nose will be fitted as last thing before priming as I broke the AV8A's probe off at least three times. Aiming to get the canopy on tonight so I can mask off.
neil5208
So I got the canopy and nose on yesterday morning only to break the probe of immediately so I had to glue back on. Masking was done last night so I primed the top side Only to realise that I'd forgotten the belly strakes so I couldn't prime the underside until this morning And then same thing with the belly antenna! but I stuck that on and sprayed the underside with Mr Colour H21 Signal White which is a dirty off white. I have sprayed the tanks and pylons as well but neglected to photo.
neil5208
Masked the underside and sprayed the top grey last night but spotted a few spots that will need further attention before I can move on to the decals.
neil5208
Been away with work for a few weeks but I'm back home now so work can proceed. Filled a gap between the intakes and fuselage and almost ready to respray.
exdraken
Looks good! A bit dark maybe? You need to imagine Spanish ... you know!
neil5208
Hi Exdraken, I used the Mr Colour paints quoted against the FS no's but I do agree it looks a bit darker than most of the pictures I've seen, hopefully once I get a better lamp that will help. Sprayed the repair on the intake and removed the masking and managed to achieve a good solid demarcation between the 2 colours. Need to work on the small bits now and start on the decals.
Andwil
You got a really good demarcation there, Harriers are not the easiest jets to mask with the vectored thrust nozzles and high wing. AW

Terry1954
Great progress on an interesting version of the good old Harrier. Have a few in the stash (Airfix, Esci, Italeri and Sword), and I rather fancy an early Spanish version. I recall seeing one of the first at an open day at Dunsfold many years ago. No Spanish markings, but a very distinct Gull Grey and White finish. Had me curious until one of the staff explained who it was destined for! Will follow along. neil5208
Started the decals tonight on the Matador and all was going well until I started on the vertical tail. Turns out its made up of four separate parts What fun...

neil5208
Done the lovely four part decal on the tail (starboard side) only to find there is another four part decal on the nose. I will be used the kit stencils as the CTA ones aren't as clear.
neil5208
Some minor work on the Matador before my airbrush has died, the fuel tanks were sprayed based on an picture found online. Also noticed the Spanish aircraft has formation lights so I'll need to find some decals
neil5208
I haven't been able to find any formation lights in my decal stash which is not realy surprising as I haven't done many late era US aircraft (as yet) but I finished of the reaming stencils and started on fitting the small exterior parts such as jet nozzles, air brake and weapons. When I used the CTA decal sheet stencils for the AV8A that I finished Sept last used I used the kit stencils on this one, I felt that the kit ones were sharper than CTA's. This may be due to the difference in colours.
