Jabba
Thank you, yes it was a bit more complicated than I would have liked, trying to follow the decal instructions and looking at actual photos. The stores are now painted up (still have both style of fuel tank) plus the pylons, slats and flaps, although I have just realised I still have a bit more work on the flaps and skyshadow pod to do.

Jabba
These arrived today, which is handy as I have started to apply a gloss varnish.
Colin W
Great work on the cammo. This should look great with the decals on. Colin
Jabba
Thank you. I have now started to apply the decals with mostly the major ones so far. A strange thing is that the Decal sheet has the writing at the front of the nose in black, when it should be green. Luckily the F3 option on the sheet is green, so I have used this (see last picture). I still have to apply the Ser No, I forgot what the number was last night. I have also applied the decals to the Eduard pods and JP233. After that the stencils. Although not pictured here I have started painting the built up U/C parts.

Jabba
Well after what seems like forever I have finished decalling. Trying to find the stencils on the Xtradecal sheet was fun when trying the compare with the instruction sheet and where they were on the sheet itself. I still could not find some that were on the sheet and strangely although there were meant to be enough stencils for 2 aircraft ( 1 UK, 1 RAFG) I could only find 2 jacking point symbols. Anyhow I have started to apply a matt varnish and will be keeping this aircraft quite clean as most of the photos of RSAF Tornados seem this way, especially as this particular was flying on the opening night of the conflict. Perhaps BAe Techies preferred cleaning to RAF ones. The easiest way to clear a full crew room is to walk in and say "Aircraft wash" and watch everyone bomb burst out of there with something else more important to do.
Colin W
Great progress. You will need to have some time to fit the flaps and slats but good to have got the decals on first. Your pictures are really dark, I believe the model deserves better shots! Colin
Jabba
Thanks for your comment. I think my main problem with my photography is the room that I us to take them in. When I take the photos the wonderful energy saving bulb is only just warming up, perhaps I may leave taking the photos until a little later and see what happens. I have added the flaps and slats. To be honest I struggled a lot to get these fitted as one end would look alright but the other would not. I also had to trim a lot of plastic from the inner edge of each flap to get the whole thing to fit in the recess for them. I am also not sure if I have got them at the correct angles, but they will do for me. I have also fitted the U/Cs and started on the pylons. The taileron that is fitted is removable at the moment, the other one is a bit slack when fitted. Also find a picture of the ejection seats.

Jabba
Thank you for your comments about the camo scheme. A few more bits added including most of the weaponry, only the Sidewinders to fit. With the JP233s fitted the model is now a lot heavier to handle. Hopefully this will be finished in the next day or so.

Jabba
I knew that they were big weapons, but not how big until they were fitted to the model. I think that the German munitions dispenser is of a similar size, but deeper.
Colin W
Nearly there now Jabba. I think I'll have to do anther Revell Tornado in this scheme soon. I wonder if Saudi Arabia is in Africa so I can do it inthe Africa GB? COlin

nimrod54
Just spotted your photos over in the gallery Jabba. I really like the three tone Saudi scheme and you have made a terrific job of your build. I have been picking up some resin bits for another 1/144 GR.1 build at some point, they include cockpit, undercarriage bays and wheels and a pair of JP233's. Well done on producing a great looking model. Cheers John
