Andwil
This is what I will be building for this group build: Decals look like they’re cactus, but not worry as I’ll be using these, along with some other goodies: I won’t be starting this just yet as I want to finish my Harrier GR3 in the Helicopter, Autogyro & STOVL GB first. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Is this a Treble one Tornado ? If so mind if I follow ? Im sort of a fan of 111 Squadron.

Welcome aboard Dennis, yes it’s 111 Sqd. Actually made a start on it today. As I had the airbrush set up to prime my Harrier, I fixed in the cockpit tub and nose wheel bay into the bottom fuselage half and shot some primer on to the internals, seats and IPs. Thanks for looking. AW

Careful, or you breach the 25% rule I will follow your build closely, as I intend to build the same kit, albeit with OIB decals, as I cannot get any striking special livery fir the ADV

Don’t know where I got that from. Now I know where “Remember remember the 5th of September” comes into it. Still, well below 25%! AW 1

Colin W
I think you are still below 25% but no extra prize for being first in the Gallery. Good to see an F3 joining the frey, expacially 111 sqn Colin W 1
Andwil
After my false start due to having some primer in the airbrush to use and with my Harrier now finished I have made a proper start on the Tornado, making up a few sub assemblies and attending to a plethora of pins in inconvenient places such as inside undercarriage doors, adjacent to missile fins and, unbelievably, three on the inside of each wheel. Dry fit shows there will be filler. AW
Andwil
Trenches under the wings filled with Mr Dissolved Putty Because a large part of the fin will be covered by a decal, the ILS antennae have been removed, to be reattached after the decals. A few scratches to be polished out. The early fit twin blade aerials are removed from the spine and replaced with a GPS aerial made from a thin slice of Evergreen rod. Thanks for looking. Andwil
This week over the course of several relatively short sessions I have managed to prime and get some paint on various parts including the wings and tail planes top and bottom as these would be a bit tricky to paint after assembly. I still have to paint the sweep area of the wings in a darker grey. Cockpit, seats and instrument panels. The kit items are not accurate and I don’t like the very bright decals provided so I have painted them light grey with a dry brushing of black to suggest switches etc. The screens are black with a drop of clear for a glassy effect. The seats and cockpit sides are meant to be dark admiralty grey, a colour I have not been able to source, so I mixed my own from neutral grey with a drop of dark blue, quite pleased with result. a Looks a bit rough, but this is many times life size. Still have to paint the buckles. Thanks for looking. AW
Andwil
Yesterday I got the dark grey on the sweep area of the wings. I’m not concerned with the small masking error as this part is hidden within the fuselage. Which enabled me today to fit the wings using the hot screwdriver method on the hinge pins and close up the fuselage. The fuselage was a bit tricky, there are only two locating pins, one in the extreme nose and one in the tail between the jet pipes. There is a lot of flex along the joint. I used Tamiya thin and started from the back, gluing one section at a time. Thanks for looking. AW

Andwil
Finished off the assembly of the major parts today. The PJ Productions seats look a little on the small side and I had to pack some scrap plastic card under them to raise them to the right hight: Intakes, fin and canopy attached: The fit of the components was so so and there are some nasty seams and a step to rub down, I’m not expecting to get a very good result out of this kit. Thanks for looking. AW 3
Jabba
good progress, pity about the seam step, but I am sure that you will resolve this. See what you mean about the size of the seats.

See what you mean about the size of the seats. Thanks Jabba. A couple of sessions with sanding sticks, various grades sandpaper and a micro mesh polishing have hopefully addressed the problem, primer will reveal how well! The Revell kit omits the flare launchers under the rear fuselage so these were scratched from plastic card and attached: Wings and tail planes masked off and ready for primer: Thanks for looking. Andwil
I got a coat of primer on today, but it showed that the horrible seam along the fuselage join is still there, so more sanding is required. I will persevere with this build, but to be honest my heart isn’t really in it and I think it will be destined for the back of the cabinet. Andwil
I have managed to get the recalcitrant seam into a condition I can live with and today got the Light Aircraft Grey on the underside: I can feel some mojo returning. The Radome painted medium sea grey and the tail fin and spine sprayed with Tamiya gloss black. And masking off: The bright patch on the underside is a reflection from my desk lamp. I have left the tailplanes masked as next I have to mask for the thrust reversers and the natural metal panel on the fin. Thanks for looking. Andwil
Thrust reversers, panel on fin and the panel around the cannon port were masked off and sprayed dark aluminium: Apologies for the blurry photo, I was holding the model with one hand and my phone in the other. I had a slight set back when removing the masking, I broke the starboard tailplane off and had to re glue it. Things under wings: Tanks Sidewinders Skyflashes. Thanks for looking.
