Panavia 200 Tornado - MFG1 Norm87 & JaBoG38 Norm83 - Revell 1/48 x 2

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm back again.

And my preparations to the Tornado STGB are almost done.
This is going to my entry in this STGB.
On the table are almost my entire stash of aftermarket parts for the German Tornados.

So I'll be building a German Tornado, using the Revell 1/48 kit, but from which wing and in what colour scheme you'll have to guess for now. :D
I've left a small clue on the Wing in the picture.
By next weekend I'll let you known what it will be.

Until the 5th.

Hi all. :D

And thank for the interest.
As some of you guess I did plan to build a JaBoG38 in Norm76 with the MW-1 dispenser.

But then Christer A sent me a picture of a MFG1 Marine Tornado in Norm87 with the mine dispenser loaded.
Picture here: https://www.airliners.net/photo/Germany-Navy/Panavia-Tornado-IDS/1033064/L

And this paint scheme is one of my favourites and I've found some additional pictures of MFG1 Tornados with what looks like slimelights in three positions on the fuselage, and on the droptanke.

So I think this one will be what I'll enter.

But since I'm a bit crazy I think I'll do a second one as well.
How about a Luftwaffe IDS from JaBoG33 in Norm83 with three droptanks and a B-61 nuke ?  :wicked:
I only have found one very small picture of it on the net, and that was in 2015 so I don't have a link to it.

I had planned to start this weekend, but life came in the way.
But the plan is to have something to show during the next days.

And as for the AM parts, I got some more on order that'll hopefully will turn up during September.  :D

Bosse, I wholeheartedly approve of the first change!

I'm getting very tempted by the Norm-87 scheme myself, but to be used with some Kormorans off course.

The second build is off course totally crazy, but amazing even so!

Where will you source all Norm-83 decals?

I have to source them from a lot of different decal sheets. But I think I'll have enough decals for at least one Tornado in Norm83.

And just to gives an headsup.

I had an email conversation with Harald at Hahen decal where I asked if he had any plans to release a sheet in Norm83, and he said it will come.

But he did not specify when.

Hi All. :D

And welcome to the first episode of "Cooking with Bosse - Tornado Style" :D
Or what do you say to a cut of Beef Tender Loin whit fries, Sauce Bearnaise and homegrown Haricouverts.

All washed down with a rather tasty Swedish Bitter and some great Aussie Red Wine. :eat: :tasty:

But let's get back to the real subject.
I've now officially started my Double-Tornado build.
I'm going to build two Revell Tornado IDS's side-by-side.
That means that I'll have one month to build them, another month for painting and decals and the final month for completion.
And to do that I'll build them with all thing in and closed.
I think I can manage this, but we'll see in December.

Yesterday I started to glue some plastic and surprisingly with the ordnance and tanks.

First I robbed my Daco Starfighter set for a B-61 Nuke.
And then a GR.4 box for the third droptank.
The GR.4 box comes with both the 1500 liter and the 2250 liter Hindenburg tanks.
So this one would have been a spare, but now it'll be used on my Götterdamungs-Tornado.
After that I glued the kits 1500 liter tanks together and the TSJP ECM pod.

And this morning when I got out of the house to go to the car and drive to work I was meet with this colourful morning sky.

And with this beautiful sunrise I think this will be a good day, and that'll glue some more plastic this evening.
To be continued.....

Thanks Werner,

That's exactly the picture I was refering to.

My build progress are going great.

I was prepping parts for sub assemblies all evening yesterday.

And did get one of the ejectorseat ready for primer.

I've sanded down the moulded on belts since I'm going to use Eduards seatbelts on these.

The other one I managed to break, but I'll have it done later this evening.

To be continued.....

Hi. :D

Some more small bits have been glued together.
The airbrake well have been glued to the fuselage.
50327359412_1ab3e85772_k.jpg131 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

And some small bit for the fin as well.

That's about it.
All mating surface has to be lightly sanded before glueing, so it take a bit longer than I remember from last time I built this kit.
But I'll have it glued up in a few week I guess.

Nice start. I too have found this on the Eduard version of this kit.

Hi. :D

Well another weekend has come and gone.
But I had a great weekend.
My lovely wife treated me to one of my favourite dinners on Saturday.
50334192723_8fac1e5403_k.jpg133 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
Schnitzel with french fries and garlic butter. :tasty: :eat:

And I collected some light reading materials that I'd ordered.

Then it was time go get busy at the worktable.
I started with the B-61 nuke, so I could use a Tamiya spray can to paint it with.
And spraying can only be done on the balcony, so I better do this things when it's daytime.

But the attachments point are in the wrong place on the bomb from Daco's Starfighter set.

This is how it should look like.
B61_nuclear_bomb.jpg
And when loaded to an aircraft.
message-editor%2F1521070958788-b61-12-3.
So I drilled two small hole so I could glue some metal wire in it.

And when the silver paint dried I started to tackle the main wheel bays.
50334881426_ae775b3c94_k.jpg137 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
Revell hasn't done any detailing in them.
But I'm using Eduards PE to rectify this.

I bought this etch set in 2014 when there wasn't any resin sets out on the market.
Today I think I'd buy the resin set instead, but since I already had this I'm using it.

About an hour later I had one wheel bay almost done.
50338688857_1df9b1d9d8_k.jpg139 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr

I then had a break for some hours to watch my hockey team Väsby beat Nyköping with 10-1 in a pre season hockey game.   :yahoo:
When the match was over I did the second wheel bay.

Some PE parts hade to go into the fuselage section of the wheel bays.
50337847083_fef9f2eb89_k.jpg141 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr
I'm not done yet with the PE.
Eduard has choosen to do the electronic boxes in coloured PE.
So I have to paint the wheel bays before I can continue with the rest of the part.

But this will be a job for this evening.
To be continued.....
