Here's mine and it's another F3! Build thread is here but to recap:

Kit: Tamiya (ex Italeri) Tornado F3

Scale: 1/72

Build: Out of box with tape for seatbelts

Paints: Halfords plastic primer, Revell acrylics airbrushed, Klear, Flory Models Wash

Decals: XTRADECAL Tornado F.3 229 OCU/65 Sqn "Red Zebra display" scheme

Extras: none

Notes: This aircraft ZE809 was lost in a non-fatal crash in June 1994 while flying with 111 Squadron. A seal around a high pressure shaft failed leading to an engine explosion and fire.

Revell Tornado GR4 1/48 scale converted to the original MRCA prototype 002 as per its first flight.

Finished with wings in the landing configuration with flaps, slats and spiolers deployed.

Paints from Mr Colour, and declas home printed from artwork supplied by @BritJet

Like most I was caught out by the complexity of the Revell Tornado and consequently the time taken to complete the build. I thought at one point I might not even complete my own Group Build. However these things always come togther quite quickly in the end so here she is in all the glory as planned.

Thanks to all those who helped along the way with advice and suggestions, esp @BritJet and Tony Horton.

Some more pictures to follow in the build thread when I get another few minutes of daylight!

Bulid Thread is here

Note Note that unlike so many British prototypes, XX946 still exists and after many years at the RAF Museum in Hendon she is now in the reserve collection at Cosford. I hope one day the current wrap around grey green camouflage will be replaced by these spectacular markings originally worn.

Many thanks to all those who joined in and to Col for co hosting.

Raspberry Ripple Tonka (GR1.P)

Based on the 1/100 scale Revell IDS Easykit, but with the 'play value' retractable undecarriage replaced by parts from a Tamiya Phantom kit.

All decals have come from my spares box, so there are a few compromises ;).  Here's a link to my build thread, if you would like to see more.

Finished this one finally and thoroughly enjoyed it too. It the Hobby Boss kits with  a few extras;

  • Eduard Cockpit Etch Set
  • Eduard BOZ Pod
  • Eduard Sky Shadow Pod
  • Eduard CPU-123 Paveway II
  • Quickboost Undercarriage Covers
  • CMK Martin Baker Mk.10 Ejection Seats
  • Reskit Wheels
  • Master Pitot & AOA Probes

Did I say a few, didn't realise how many until I typed this.

All painted with Xtracrylix and Valejo paints as well as Alclad for the metal bits. Decals came from Kits-World and a few Xtradecals.

Revell 1:72 Tornado GR.1 ZD748/AK 9 sqn, RAF Bruggen 1998.

Out of the box except for an SBS nose and pitot tube.  Brush painted with Xtracrylix paints, Flory wash used for weathering and dirtiness.

On the whole, I enjoyed this, although I think the challenges with the Revell kit are fairly well documented in the various build threads for this GB!

Thanks for all the support, comments and input throughout my build - it was really appreciated!

Al.

Painted overall Dark Sea Grey and finished with Mark 1 decals, ZA559 bears the special markings of MacRobert's Reply crest under the cockpit on the port side of the fuselage. It was worn in memory of a similarly named Shorts Stirling during WWII.

After market parts used for this build included a Master pitot and RetroWings LRMTS pod.

This is my Tornado IDS of the Italian air force, courtesy of an ancient 1/72 Italeri kit.

I quite like it, though it got very frustrating at the end.

Even tonight as I finished it up, I couldn't decide whether I want to commit to a certain wing sweep angle by adding the stores and their pylons, so for now it's "airshow style". There are a couple of bits missing as I am sure you will notice, but this is the best I could do.

Here's the build thread:

Edited to put in better photos and after I decided to add the weapons load. The wing pylons are stuck on with bluetack so I can sweep them later.
