Vulcan! Another one, a K2 tanker this time.

Recommended Posts

This is my 11th completed Vulcan model, and my first K2 tanker. It’s the Trumpeter kit with a number of parts taken from a GWH/Pit Road kit, such as the jetpipes and tanker parts. I painted this one as XH561 of 50 Sqn in wrap around camouflage. Since I repainted my Airfix one in 1/72, my collection has been missing a wrap around Vulcan and also I needed to do a K2, so this was killing two birds with one stone, filling two gaps in the collection at once. Most K2s had the rear of the underside painted white, but for about 2 months. XH561 flew without this, which is when my model is based on. This is my third Trumpeter Vulcan, I bought this one at Newark Air Museum last month, and I’ll definitely be building more, I think I’ll do a 617 Sqn white blue steel Vulcan with my next one. I’m slowly getting towards my goal of having every variant done soon. Just a B2.MRR, standard B1 and prototype to go. I’m not including testbeds, but I’ll get around to those at some point.

Some group shots with other ones. I haven’t taken any of my three trumpeter kits together yet, I’ll add those tomorrow if I remember.

Excellent builds.

Once the Airfix newbie comes out I may be tempted.... Just seeing 558 taxi past 607 is a good reason to build them.  Growing up in Lincolnshire in the 70s and 80s even better. Scampton and Waddington had extended approach paths which went right over Immingham my home town

And same at Grandparents in Caistor.... I was too young when I actually lived there, but between 1970 and 72 our house looked out and you could see Scampton

Look forward to more builds

Tim

Great looking tanker! I'll bet that refueling assembly created a lot of drag. Wonder what it did to flying characteristics.

Outstanding collection of Vulcans. You have to be applauded for persevering with multiple variables of one type of aircraft. I think they look fantastic. I haven't even made one yet! 😅

Thanks :)

I’m going for every single variant and colour scheme eventually, and one day every airframe....

Apparently the K2 flew very nicely and was a very stable tanker, a favourite for fighter pilots.

Now all you need is a scale RAF Waddington/Scampton for them to live in. Top notch line up there.

that may be a little big...... buuuut I am a little crazy so who knows
