EMD GP9 Road Switcher-B&M Railroad

Recommended Posts

I will start this sometime this week. It's an un powered and un decorated HO scale

diesel electric road switcher, made by Athearn. I have purchased decals for it for an

all blue scheme of Boston and Maine Railroad from the late 70s-early 80s, unit # 1825.

I built one a year or so ago, GP35 of Penn Central. This one has already had some parts

added, horn, light, trucks, couplers and tanks on trucks. I added the side plates and puttied

and sanded a few sink marks. It also came with laser cut windows, should be interesting.

I was infatuated with these as I lived about a mile from a railroad junction as a boy and use

to ride my bicycle down and watch the switchers in the yard working. My grandfather had retired a

few years earlier from NYC RR. I saw the blue trains when we went for rides as a young boy

along the Mowhawk Trail on Rte 2 in Massachusetts. There were blue box cars stretching for

miles on the tracks next to Rte 2, seemed to go on forever to me. So here is what I am

starting with.---John
