I liked this picture as the light was early morning. I've seen a lot of B&W Wartime keepsake shap-shots where The sun is lower and the shadows are stark. I think it gives the model an authentic look and gives the picture proportionate depth of field.. This is a great resource for these wartime pics and aircraft and personnel infomation.     http://www.americanairmuseum.com/

I painted on the tail black bar as i messed up the decal. I don't think anyone noticed this  so appears to have worked! LOL   on both sides of the upper wing i did a bit of weathering where i imagined the ground crew would have been up on the wing. Starboard side for the fuel filler  and Port side more weathering as it's the side the pilot would have entered the cockpit and crew chief would then up on the wing and help strap him in etc..

Not glued the canopy ion place yet.. haven't decided Open or Closed.. Maybe go for Open this time! show off that lovely Tamiya detailed cockpit!

I will be looking at developing my Pilot Painting skills in the near future.. He looks a bit pasty in the face! Got some quality flesh tome acrylic and have painted his face now!

Some details

loved this Tamiya kit. Beautiful mouldings. Very little filler needed.

No primer just Hataka USAAF Bare Metal. TAmiya paints elsewhere.

I trashed the chequerboard decal for the cowling.. but decided to do a flat red for it instead

i made my own enamel panel line wash using black Matt  Humbrol.

Weathering effects are mostly This and a 4B pencil. I didn't want to go too overboard on the weathering.

Decals applied over the paint and settled using Humbrol Decalfix. Not used this before but I'm quite impressed with the settling as they dried out. No silvering  of the carrier film either.

i could seal the model with some gloss varnish. Not decided if I will yet.

That is one great looking Thunderbolt. Don't see anything at all that needs to be improved on.

Most kind appreciation Sat. Thanks. I hope I did this kit the justice it deserved. I loved the painting stage. I like the bare metal paint I chose. I think it works!

Ready for an escort mission...

No trouble with the invasion stripe decals?

Hi johnny. Thanks .. yes I did overdo the Decalfix a little on the stripes but not a bad result in the end! It is ready for acextra long range escort mission indeed.

Im just putting the decals on my 1:48 Tamiya Beaufighter Mk X.. that should be my next RFI submission I guess!

Yeah that looks great. Really well done.

They weren't messing around with the size of the underwing stars and bars!

They certainly weren't! Trigger happy AA gunners... apparently the worst for firing at any planes were Royal Navy gunners

Very nice Col Kurtz!!!!!  Natural metal / silver goes well with the P-47.  Excellent results!!! :goodjob:

Mike , thanks for the appreciation of my humble work. When I was a young lad making models you only had Humbrol metallic Silver and that was it ! Modern acrylic bare metal paints give any USAAF plane that something special I think. Andy

Awesome build! Really looks good.
One of my favorite WW2 fighters.

Well thank you sir. I'm always pleased when people from the USA appreciate my USAAF offerings. it the greatest compliment in a way as  Americans can cla M a sort of spiritual ownership as it's  their history in the first instance.  love the WW2 history of The USAAF and visit lots of old abandoned airfields in East Anglia on my cycle. If there I see a memorial I will always stop and salute and tidy up weeds and remove any litter. many of them are in quite remote locations and I feel it's respectful to all those young men if people remember , respect and keep the memory of their sacrifices alive.

It’s a really nice job Sir! You really captured the Spirit of this great plane.

whats neat about living here in Mesa, AZ is that Mesa Airport is just a few miles away from my house, and sometimes old WW2 Bombers fly over head! Just amazing to see and hear! I’ve see a B-25 fly over a few times.
