Eduard 1/48 Mig-21PF - Second attempt

A few years ago I picked up this kit...can’t exactly recall when but I think it was when it was first released in 2014.   I started it (barely started it as you can see below - hope that’s well within the 25% rule mods) and then put it on a shelf where I forgot about it until a few months ago when I had a tidy up of the stash.  I am proposing to join the GB with a build of the plane shown on the box art.  This is a Mig-21PF from the 921st Fighter Regiment in the late 60s and early 70s. Thirteen stars are displayed on the nose art depicting victories gained by pilots flying this plane.  One of these pilots was Nguyen Van Coc the most successful Vietnamese fighter ace with 9 confirmed kills.  This plane is apparently currently displayed at the Air Force museum in Hanoi.

A very nice choice Dave, both in subject and kit.

You are way below the 25% limit so feel free to crack on with this excellent kit.

Thank you very much.  I am on the south coast this week with the extended family in an air bnb. The weather forecast is rubbish so hopefully some bench ( dining table) time will be available!

Welcome along Dave and with a real gem of a model!

Eduard certainly produced a ripper with this model, it's near perfect. Good to see you have resurrected this from the bowels of the stash!  I doubt the 25% rule was even on the same planet when looking at what you've already done.

Good luck with her, I do hope this time you're more successful and we get to see her in the gallery.

Indeed it is - I saw it there 5 years ago:

MiG-21PF 4326 (1)

Mind you I did see two MiG-17s purporting to be the same aircraft in two different museums on the same day so whether it's actually 4326 is another question...

Great choice of kit and subject - I built it a few years ago, inspired by having just seen the real thing.

Thanks Rich. It may be to do with getting older but I really can’t recall why I did so little before shelving it...work probably got in the way.    Looking forward to cracking on.

Indeed! Too bad their 1/72nd (my preferred scale) counterpart omitted the R-3R missiles.

Cheers,

Loving this kit.  It is almost coming together on its own 🙂

A bit of PE....not my favourite thing to work with but it does look good when you get it right.

Bit of nose weight...a few of my 1/72 Migs are tail sitters so hopefully this will sort that out for this one.

Everything is coming together.  Lovely engineering.

On the plus side I love this kit.  It has come together very nicely indeed.

On the negative one part of the front wheel is missing....so I have ordered a resin set of wheels 😀....and my wife for some unknown reason didn’t let me bring the airbrush with us on holiday....so this is where the build stops until I get back to the workshop.

They can be funny like that can't they.

Build looks great though, and if there's a Halfords near where you're holidaying then you can buy a can of primer and get that done. :)
