1/48 Revell F-15E Strike Eagle 494th Fighter Squadron RAF Lakenheath "Deadpool"

Recommended Posts

This is the Revell Strike Eagle in 1/48 kit # 04891 which included bombs. I did some research and instead of purchasing the GWH strike eagle I decided to pay 1/3 of the price and found this kit on ebay for $45. I've read the this kit had less issues than the GWH kit.  There were a couple of fit issues with the kit, the first is where the upper and lower fuselages meet which had to be filled and sanded down. Another was the CFTs.  Thank goodness for Vallejo plastic putty which filled in some pretty noticeable seams. the canopy also had fit issues, I thought it was too long. my final issue with this kit was how the weapons load mounted to the aircraft.  the pre-drilled holes by Revell did not line up with the mounts itself and real estate was tight when mounting the weapons.  you had to angle the bombs a certain way or the fuel tanks would not mount correctly.  Overall, I am happy with the outcome and would build another one of these kits as the detail is pretty good and the price was worth it.

The decals are Caracal, F-15E Lakenheath Strike Eagles, and the pilots are extras from both a Tamiya F-16 and F-14 kit.  I had to cut thier lower legs off to fit into the cockpit.  Other than that this pretty much an OOB build.

Thanks for looking!

Your comments about build issues are much appreciated as I have two of these in my kit stash. Beautifully built model. Love the way it's displayed.

Test and dry fit every part! also sand down the CFT's and put some filler around the edges

Very nice work Reggie! I love the choice of markings - Deadpool is great! The base is really cool as well!

It's a shame that both this and the GWH kit have so many flaws - I'd love to have a definitive F-15 without any of the drawbacks (hint hint Tamiya :D)

I wish they would make one in 1/48! if it would be anything like the f-16 orf-14 kits id be really impressed.  and for as many flaws that the GWH kit has I would buy a revell one each time.
