Finn
Now we know why Trumpeter included the AGM-45 with their 1/32 Crusaders: it would make for a nice What If project with Zuni launchers on the fuselage. Jari

busnproplinerfan
One of the two test F-8Es they had. Does look like it wold be close to anything hanging on the sides.
Finn
This video shows a good head on view of a rocket pod on the wing pylon with single Zuni launcher on the fuselage: https://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675024125_F8-Crusader_ground-crewmen-wear-headset_ordnance-men-loading-bombs_plane-in-parking-area It looks to have lots of clearance, other videos at the site show the Y rack loaded with a rocket pod on the wing. busnproplinerfan
Neat video, very good quality. To bad no sound, but it's easy making your own jet noises. Does look like a lot of room away from the Zunis.
Des
Don't recall if it involved the Crusader or if it was another US Navy fighter but recall reading at one time that a regular open day feature at one of the west coast test facilities was firing off a Zuni or similar down the range then launching an AIM-9 at it. If it was the Crusader no idea if it involved only the fuselage rails or them and the wing launched stores.
Finn
The F-8 could carry AIM-9s and Zunis at the same time on the Y rack: Jari

Then I read pce over the Israeli conflicts, that there is hardly any target worth the risk... but only the combined effects and risk/loss rate of a complete campain. Kinda makes sense to me! But Vuetnam also saw B-52s with very small payloads... simply they were not designed for conventional warfare ...
