What's your latest acquisition Part V ?

Recommended Posts

Looks like Part IV has tipped over the 40 page mark so I'll kick us off again with my latest purchases.

I've been after this kit at a reasonable price for quite some time so was glad to get this one which included the Cutting Edge resin set too from a UK seller on eBay.

Don't tell anyone but I have acquired a new Eduard 1/48 Spitfire Mk.1 kit (and me being a Bf109 Fan too!). I didn't fancy making masks for the camouflage schemes so bought these.

One type A and one type B scheme.

Sorry newbie question. Why the 40 page mark? Is it an unwritten rule or a technical thing?

Technical If memory serves ? The moderators cut the threads at 40 pages for storage issues. You will find a few here and there that are longer. Usually ones that are pinned and important, or where they display a lot of info for others to learn from.

5 litre 'jerry can' (lister's description) of 99.9% IPA from ebay. I was quite surprised to actually get it as I thought the price must have been a mistake - £20.99, seeing as the seller is selling 1 litre bottles for £9.69 and given the prices it's generally reached since March! Needed a restock as much of my supply had been requistioned for hand sanitising by the boss when she went shopping!

Flying Review International September 1963 , the first issue following the change of title from Royal Air Force Flying Review.      Includes a small news item with artists impression about early UK interest in the Chinook which I was aware of but not that it involved a change of powerplant to four Gnome engines in pairs on cabin roof height stub wings forward of the rear rotor housing . . . . . what a ideal opportunity missed for yet another UK military procurement fiasco.

The Sea Shall Not Have Them..

I have this and I am pretty sure it was on Netflix or similar. Not a bad film, especially with the Sea Otter in it and Nigel Patrick as the Flight Sergeant. Tells a good story with characters that are a lot more believable than in most moder films. I assume the ASR launches are postwar?

The F'5e as an additional Austrian airforce kit, and the mtor bike because it is a change, (And fairly cheap, too!) I also picked up some Mr Hobby levelling thinner, some tamiya white and extra thin glue.

I was often tempted by the Tamiya motorbikes ( my LMS at Farnborough always had a good supply ) but ended up building tanks when I needed a change.

John

I liked the price of the bike, and I do have some tanks - including a leopard 2A4 to be made as an Austrian army tank for different changes.

Now that Bandai R2D2 and BB8 constitute another change!

A change in my personal life prompted me to sell every kit I owned plus my part started stuff to have a completely fresh start. I now only own one kit which arrived the other day

1/48 Chinook

If you’re only going to own one kit it probably wouldn’t be this one :D

But being a resident of Whaley Bridge and our near miss with disaster last year I owe a lot of thanks to this magnificent piece of engineering. I’ll do my best with a few pictures I got from an impromptu guided tour we got to build one of the aircraft involved

Zh777

I’ve bought a mask set and have some Xtradecal serials to change the kit aircraft. The other lumps and bumps I’ll work out along the way

Quite a fair amount...

Masks, Decals, & 1/48 F-35B are from Hannants

Royal Class Mustang from Scale Model Shop (www.scalemodelshop.co.uk) in Halifax. Been looking for one for a while, and found this, inc postage for £65 (which is about what it was retailing for when it came out I think)

Airfix Mustang, Italeri F-35B & Tamiya A6M Zero from The Model Box, over at Barton-Le-Clay.

Lysander from MJ Models in Westhoughton, Bolton (another I'd been after, but always a bit pricy - about £25 inc postage)

Paints from the local Hobbycraft (sadly apart from Als Hobbies in MK who specialise in RC, there are no other LHS within 30 mins drive - The Model Box is possibly now the closest one)

.

.

.

(and now a confession)

Zero box is empty - that's already been built, probably less than 50 parts in all, lovely simple, but well engineered little kit, that went together so easily. A nice little palate cleanser between larger, more complicated builds.

And also instructions from SWMBO... NO MORE BUYING FOR A WHILE! Apparently I had mentioned (although I don't remember doing so), that I wanted the Mustang Royal Class kit. So she took it as a hint that I wanted it for my upcoming birthday. Now I had dropped some not very subtle ones that I wanted a new camera as it's a significant birthday coming up, so I wanted to replace my existing Nikon P100. Nope - she's decided to tell her parents, to get me the mustang kit!!!! I was in a little bit of trouble when this one arrived on Monday.......:chair:

(had to remove image - had a recent problem with hosting source and lost the image - managed to recover some, but this was one of those that was lost, and could not find my backups which I know I have somewhere!!!!)

As progress is being made on both my BoB groupbuild entries, I decided to get the last few bits I needed to complete them. From Hannants I got two Peewit masks for the Arma Hurricanes and one for the Do 215, and from Fantasy Printshop two sets of Luftwaffle code letters for the Do 215. One sheet has the necessary 8mm letters and numbers (though I believe they should actually be 8.3mm to represent the 600mm code size) and another sheet that has the 12.5mm (900mm) underwing codes. I also added a cheeky sheet of 8" RAF serial numbers, as I have depleted my Modeldecal stash somewhat and the Xtradecal equivalent has been out of stock for ages.
