Trumpeter 1/32 A-7E Corsair

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, hope we are all well.

Here is the latest addition to my collection, Trumpeter's 1/32 A-7E Corsair II.

It's built OOB with a couple of exceptions:

1. I added the Zactomodels resin intake in order to improve the profile of the front end of the Corsair. Trumpeter's kit parts give the intake a flattened, oval shape whereas in real life it is more rounded. The Zactomodel's resin intake attempts to correct this and does a good job in my opinion.

2. I used the Eduard detail set for the Escapac IG-2 ejector seat. The kit instructions would have you use the parts included for the later "SJU" seat, however I believe the SJU seats were fitted from around the mid-80s whereas the plane I'm depicting dates from 1972, so the Escapac seat would have been fitted.

Anyways, here you go.....enjoy!

(Note that the canopy isn't fixed yet, so you may see the odd bit of blutak holding it up!)

There is a WIP here:

All comments and constructive criticism very welcome.

Thanks for looking.

Stunning I do love a Corsair

i have to ask how do you do the tape around the canopy, I always think it makes a masterpiece rather than a model but never had the courage to attempt it

Darren

Thanks Darren....the Corsair is one of my favorites too.....and to me it certainly doesn't deserve it's "SLUFF" nickname!

Regarding the canopy frame, if you look towards the end of my WIP for this kit (see the link embedded above) you'll see that it isn't too hard to do....I just used some 0.7mm masking tape, which goes round bends nicely because it's so thin, and trimmed it with a very sharp blade.

Thanks, all, for your very kind comments.

Looking back on the photos I posted yesterday, I've noticed that I didn't really upload any that I took of the starboard side of the aircraft, which is arguably more interesting with the refuelling probe, so here's a few more, taken from that side.

As always, thanks for looking!

She's a real beauty! I love the weathering and generally heavily-used look. Also like the very colourful markings (so much better than the "six-shades-of-grey" that predominated nowadays.

I remember talking to guy at Telford last year, who had also built the kit, He said he nearly threw it away twice, but decided he'd put too much effort in to just junk what he'd produced.

Thank you for providing us with such a comprehensive work-in-progress review. The kit obviously has a great many issues, but your end result is really worth the effort.

Cheers.

Chris.
