Hampden bomb bay

You know, I don't think I've ever seen a good photo or drawing of a Hampden bomb bay in all my decades of aircraft looking.

I'd sure be interested to see what's out there.

There is this one at the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley BC:

hampden-107w-15.jpg

Edit: deleted pic that already had been posted but while searching I came across this of a 50 Squadron Hampden:

Flying Log Entry

August 26th, Aircraft, Hampden: No. P1317. Pilot; Self+ 3 Crew.

Ops LEIPZIG 6x250lbs: 60x4lb: (33) (Crash No.1)

Stbd engine shot up over Emden-2hrs on one engine-port engine stopped 2 miles E of Hemswell.

I'm guessing 3 x 250lbs bombs in the forward part of the bomb bay, 1 x 250lbs in the rear with a SBC with the 60 x 4lbs beside it. Plus 1 bomb under each wing.

That must be a series taken at 320 Sqn! (the orange triangle)

The photo's caption:

Royal Dutch Naval Air Service and RAF engine mechanics working on the Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp engine of a Lockheed Hudson Mark V of No. 320 (Dutch) Squadron RAF at Bircham Newton, Norfolk.

Despite the caption, I’m not confident this is actually a Hampden bay (from here):

Maybe a Hudson? Sorry if it isn’t a Hampden.

Looks like Hudson to me. Too wide to Hampden and that triangular thngie on top of the photo is a giveaway IMHO

Did you read the post above yours? It's been established that it is a Hudson bomb bay.

Thanks for the replies guys,  Not much around on the bomb bay picture wise, but Blimpyboys image gives me a start at least!

Plenty of good research pictures on the Hudson  so I now have  motivation to build one of them! :rofl2:

I jumped the shark. I see a pic and little old me start typing before checking the rest of the thread. BTW i'm alway on the market for good Hudson detail pic's. never seen that one before. BTW that triangle thingy it seems that it was bounted on some but on some it was removed (on some of the other Hudsons posted here)

I really am surprised at the dearth of Hampden photos. It seems to me that it wasn’t a rare aircraft.

Maybe (hopefully) there are many pictures mouldering away in old albums, waiting to be rediscovered!

Is that a rack under the right wing root for flares or even small bombs?

Light series bomb carrier  (By the way, Rack is a US term, the RAF/RN always call them "Carriers").

Just this afternoon, I received a collection of photos from Carl Vincent, showing Hampdens from No. 32 OTU RCAF. In that collection of 16 photos was this one.

Just an aside for interest, the light series bomb carrier was first used by the RAF in the  late 1920's.   Later marks were used well into this century on Nimrod, and listed as cleared on Lynx and Sea king helicopters. The New Nimrod MRA4 was also slated to use it before it was cancelled, so it has a RAF in service life approaching 90-100 years. It may still be in service inventory as I have not yet seen anything that lists it as obsolete.

Of the photos Carl sent me, this is about it for codes. There are a couple more that I'll post later, elsewhere, but none the match the above photo.
