Jeff G
Building the popular Revell 1/72 Lancaster as WS-J W4964, and I have a question about the squadron code colours. The kit supplies the codes as red with yellow outline, but in the reference picture I don't see the yellow outline (and one would, given the yellow on the roundel). Do I trim the yellow off the decals? Or just leave it? I suppose the plain red letters could be from an earlier time period but I like to have a reference photo.
Mark Harmsworth
The yellow outline may well be correct from the bits on display at Newark Air Museum: http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/Lancaster-Corner and this: http://www.lancaster-archive.com/lanc_surv_w4964.htm Edited August 8, 2020 by Mark Harmsworth added second reference
Mark Postlethwaite
Yellow outlines to code letters were added later in the war with the introduction of daylight raids so it all depends upon what time period you want to depict. 2
