Building the popular Revell 1/72 Lancaster as WS-J W4964, and I have a question about the squadron code colours. The kit supplies the codes as red with yellow outline, but in the reference picture I don't see the yellow outline (and one would, given the yellow on the roundel).

 

Do I trim the yellow off the decals? Or just leave it? I suppose the plain red letters could be from an earlier time period but I like to have a reference photo.

Yellow outlines to code letters were added later in the war with the introduction of daylight raids so it all depends upon what time period you want to depict.

I built this Lanc a while ago,.... have a look at my post,.... there is some discussion about the aircraft with reference pics....it might help?
