Scammell Pioneer Transporter (1/35 Thunder Models)

Ok so this is the second model in 35 odd years so be easy!

The Scammell transporter was always an iconic model back in the day when the only option was the Airfix 1/72 one. I always wanted to do this justice so when I found out about this beast I couldn't resist. This is a pretty good model with some nice detail however as I've discovered with non tank military stuff your options for detail are boundless. All those break pipes, chains, leavers, cables, springs. It's a rabbit hole of detail. I did plenty of research (Google) and added / modified as I saw fit. The colour scheme is sort of early war rather than desert. The fun bit with me is the weathering and since I discovered pigments they seem to be the weapon of choice. I tried not to be too muddy but the rust bug took hold and I think it's a bit OTT but I had fun so......

I have added a few scratchbuild bits such as the greatcoat in the cab, the seat cushions, all the tarp covers, in-field additional storage racks, lots of cables and wires including break pipes and pipes and wires in the engine. I even did the windscreen wiper motors and cables which you can't see!

Aftermarket wheels were used as the kit ones just don't look realistic. Also aftermarket REME resin kits were added. The kit itself is very nice despite the plethora of ejection marks! There are a few things wrong but nothing too obvious I don't think but then I'm no expert.

Thanks for looking...........

An absolute stunner! Your second model in 35 years ............... looks like a model produced by a skilled expert after 35 years of modelling. I like everything about it.

Well done indeed.

Yes it's the kit one. I did look at the after market one which was a little more detailed but not enough to be bothered to get it. One thing that is bugging me is I forgot to add a support bar from the basket to the cab. 🙄

@Das AbteilungThank you! And don't apologise, this is what I want. I was wondering about that. In my haste I cut both off the sprue then realised they were different! I tried to work out which was which. Hey it was a 50/50 🙄

Wonderful, real work of art.

So much detail and skill illustrated in every picture. As John said, the clutter of gear is really good, particularly like the wood effect, not just on the tools but the boxes and crates etc.

Great work .

There is some very nice work there APA. All of those little details make a big defference, I shall borrow a few ideas for when I get around to starting mine.

Looks as though I should check the box contents on this and the recovery tractor just in case I have missing sprues as well.

Again thanks all.

The wood effect is part of the kit and while I left the effect on the underside storage boxes I thought it was a bit out of scale and too pronounced in the cab and rear deck so I sanded it off and scratched a new effect using a diamond file and sandpaper.

The clutter on the decking is mostly from these kits which I highly recommend as you get plenty which can be used across all three Scammell kits and any other REME based model.

This is all the gear ready for adding

Coming back to the mudguards the issue is that they are different lengths on one edge. If I had put them the other way round the edge of one would be much lower at the front than the other!

I like that, a very smart job but I think the RSM will want a word about the state of that trailer!

I think the ASM would be there first - and a lot scarier.
