canberraman
Hi again With the recent arrival of the 'Royal' liveried A330 Voyager ZZ336 to 10/101 Sqn at Brize, I thought it was time for a photo report on some of the other special schemes and anniversary markings the RAF AAR/AT fleet has worn in recent years. A330 Voyager KC.3 ZZ336 seen departing Cambridge airport on 25 June back to Brize Norton in its new VIP/Royal livery following an upgrade and repainting at the Marshalls facility. Voyager KC.2 ZZ330 of 101/101 Sqns wearing the RAF 100 fin markings, seen returning to Brize on 10 July 2018 following the RAF centenary flypast over London earlier that day. A400M Atlas ZM406 in 70 Sqn 100 anniversary marking departing RIAT 2017. Hercules C.5 ZH883 at the Brize photocall on 26 June 2016 wearing 50 years of RAF C130 service markings. This particular machine is now under conversion for resale to the Bangladeshi AF. Also seen at the 2016 Brize photocall is 47 Sqn 100 year anniversary marked Hercules C.5 ZH880. This example is also now destined for a new life overseas where after refurbishment it is to join the Bahrain AF. Hercules C.4 ZH866 at Cambridge airport on 30 Sep 2016 wearing the smart 206 Sqn 100 year anniversary markings. C-17A ZZ176 of 99 sqn emblazoned with the sqn's 100 year anniversary fin markings, landing at Brize in August 2017. Near the end of its RAF service 216 Sqn marked 30 years of Tristar operations on the fin of Tristar K.1 ZD951. Seen here on the apron at Brize on 24 March 2014. A photo essay on Brize would not be complete without a VC10! Here's VC10 C.1K XR808 'Bob' wearing the special scheme to commemorate 50 years of VC10 service and 95 years of 101 Sqn, in 2012. Hope these have been of interest. C&C always welcome. Mark 21
Alpha Delta 210
Great set, Mark! Thanks for sharing. My favourite is XR808 as I remember seeing it at shows.

Here's VC10 C.1K XR808 'Bob' My favourite ATC Summer Camp was Brize, as it was the most section visits we had on a camp. My two favourites were the morning spent in the station armoury stripping and cleaning an almost endless number of Sterling SMG's, Browning pistols, SA-80's (and its cadet friendly derivative the L-98), LSW's and a couple of GPMG's. The other was the morning spent with the RAF Police touring round all the un-manned outlying sites (ISTR they were mostly radio/radar/nav-aid related?) connected with/parented by Brize and making sure they were all still secure. Spent 3 very sedate hours doing circuits and bumps in XR808 as well. Just checked my 3822 and turns out it was 27 years ago! Now feeling rather old..... Red Dot
Lovely photos. I don't remember the Tristar and was lucky enough to avoid the KC-2 decalled thing. Andy
