DaveJL
Not much progress really, but I've managed to mask up the 109 fuselage, ready for the camouflage colours to go on: I also ordered a mask for the mottling: As I've never mottled anything in my life, this will come in handy. Plus it has the benefit of being reusable. Will get some more paint on tomorrow. Dave
Stew Dapple
I've never seen those mottle masks in use before, should be an interesting experience for both of us Cheers, Stew

DaveJL
More done through the day. RLM02 was sprayed on and once dry was masked off, allowing RLM71 to go on. After I few hours I tackled the mottling on the sides. I've never attempted this before on a model so wasn't sure how it would go. The Eduard masks were very rigid and I found them a bit awkward to use so the paint that went on looked messy so it was over sprayed with RLM65 to allow me to reassess. Luckily, I had a flexible AK mask in the equipment drawer: This was much easier to use. So a few passes and we have this: Now I do think it's a bit too heavy and defined for this aircraft, but for a first effort it'll suffice. The eagle eyed among you will notice that one of the cannon barrels has been lost, swallowed forever by the carpet. Will have to sort that. Hoping to get the yellow bits done and a coat of gloss on tomorrow. More soon. Dave
Stew Dapple
Yeah I see what you mean Dave, but best to reserve judgement until the transfers are on, that usually makes a big difference to the mottling Cheers, Stew

DaveJL
More done today. Sprayed the necessary areas with MRP Yellow RLM-04. Coverage was quite tricky so a few coats were required. Once dry, I gave the model 3 coats of Alclad Aqua Gloss. Hoping to get the decals on in the morning. Dave
DaveJL
Decals on. Went down beautifully with just a drop of Micro set on the crosses. Will get a top coat of gloss on tomorrow and let it cure overnight before getting some panel wash on. Dave

DaveJL
Managed to get the 109 finished this afternoon. Panel wash and weathering were done last night, which allowed me to get a flat coat on this morning. After a few hours, I popped on the landing gear, propeller and canopy. Quite happy with how my first 109 has turned out. With the two Spits: More pictures in RFI As always, thanks to those who commented, followed and helped out along the way. Cookenbacher
Yes, amazing paint work on the 109 Dave, but the Spitfires are still my favorite.
