DOOR 3

          Polikarpov  I-16  Zvezda 1:144

Paralysing!!!!!!!!!

Welcome through door Three dear friends, inside we have the Polikarpov  I-16  1:144. I bought this on a whim a few years ago when we still worked in Digbeth Birmingham. I had been watching @TonyTiger66 build something similar and I saw this on the shelf in the now dead an buried (and sadly missed) "Ian Allen" in the city. It will be the smallest kit I have ever built. that is if I don't lose it to the carpet MoNsTer first!!!!!

The bench is clear!!!!

Yet another side opener. 😱 I peeled back it's flesh to reveal the innards.

50188210226_f95a80f1bb_b.jpg

There are three trees, Two opaque and one clear.

Here is....well everything. and a paint pot for scale.

50187667838_da4cc42034_b.jpg

the second opaque tree is for a stand. ( I wont be using ) or will I? 🤔

50187667198_20fa2abd6a_b.jpg

I'm guessing this will be the shortest build in scale of time but we shall see.

I'll get my claws into this soooon.

Take care you little devils.

The Doctor. 👨‍🔬

Cute! It looks more accurate than the Revell one I built in the last Blitzbuild.

Remember you said that when you’re asking on the forum about the colour of the leather trim on the rudder pedals in six months’ time. It’s always the ones you don’t expect...

I don’t think this kit has a seat let alone pedals. Can you imagine the scale. 😱🤗😱

For some reason I assumed this was 1/72 but 1/144 I’d be afraid if swallowing it :)

I know. Bonkers right. The incredible shrinking model. 😬😵

Happy to have you along for the ride.

I must say though having invested in eight 1/144 jets and having a C47 and a Heracles in the stash there is a certain appeal to a well finished mini model.  I really do like the petit nature of my one finished 1/144 model.

My Horsa, which survived its maiden flight this morning, very well ( grrr )

Have at it Sir!   There is way more potential in 1/144 than people often give it credit for.  It is the Divine scale :)

While I do like 1/144  ( and your work in the scale is amazing) I reserve it for big things. I couldn’t manage to build WW2 or WW1 subjects in the scale, which is why 1/48 is my default scale. My rational; a modern jet in 1/144 is about the same size as a WW2 fighter in 1/72 which in turn is about the same size as a WWI fighter in 1/48.

Once I get my jet collection done I’m still contemplating ac1/144 the scale zeppelin stakken.

Definitively pocket sized.

Your rationale is sound. Alas I am a fool for anything and any size. Any thing goes baby. 🙃

Good afternoon.

The second starter of the day is this little oddity. For such a tiny thing the detail is amazing. For once I’m going to keep the pilot in place. Well the head and shoulders. 🥳🙃

lets kick off shall we.

The entire fuselage and wings are in one bit. This bit. But the detail as I said is lovely.

50201683278_e49e732411_b.jpg

Here she is with gate marks sanded.

50201683098_68e122ee23_b.jpg

the two sides come together thus with outer little pilot jammed in place.

50201683298_16e9ee50c0_b.jpg

This then gets glued down onto the main wings.

50202223861_4988dcda89_b.jpg

Looks great!

look @CedB. A dead one. 🤣

50202223581_f7cefee1c5_b.jpg

The top part got bought in to complete pretty much the main construction.

50201683198_ea3197eb33_b.jpg

Lovely innit. 😇

more tomorrow. It really is too ‘ot.

All the best and as always.

Happy modelling.

Your modelling cave is a loft room isn't it? How is it? Our eldest has our loft conversion as his bedroom, and if he leaves the windows shut it's like an oven in there 🥵 😂

I'm intrigued to see what you can make out of such a tiny 'plane!

It’s quite cool in there actually. It’s not really a conversion it’s just the top of an old victorian house. She is tiny isn’t she.

Ye gods. Slow down man! First WIP post and you've nearly finished! 🤣

I think this is the first time I've seen where a whole kit could be lost to the carpet monster.

You’re not wrong.👹

More on this little wonder tonight.

the nose got added.

50237989571_0f977bff52_b.jpg

Then I started getting than landing gear together.

50237989421_182925d297_b.jpg

Quite a strange looking thing.

50237989426_b4aac17d0a_b.jpg

While doing a dry fit I thought as I have a pilot for once I might use the stand and do her wheels up. 🤔

The stand itself is quite ugly.

50237989486_2160548740_b.jpg

I fancy something more at this angle. (Prop dry fitted)

50237989506_64d613ea22_b.jpg

So using a straight paper clip I can get a bunch of nice angles. Decision made, wheels up. @CedB will be happy.

50237989466_d36db3a3e9_b.jpg

Then looking at this shot.

50237989476_ffaf097d81_b.jpg

I really liked the shape of the stand. I’ll have a ponder. The second (up) uc doors fit amazingly well.

50237989471_b87c228e40_b.jpg

More soon.

thanks for popping in. ❤️

Good plan! Saves you from adding the retracting cables running from the wheels to the centerline :D
