Longbow
Hi, Folks.... Take up Modelling, they said !! It'll be relaxing, they said !! Everything seems a LOT smaller, these days !! Anyway.... Hope everyone is having a good day. I thought I'd better start a WIP thread. So, here is my Stug III B, from Tamiya, from Sturm Abteilung 192, somewhere in the East. I needed a quick and simple build, to try and regain a few lost skills; skills that are extremely rusty. This will be mostly OOTB, with a just a few details added from the additions sets, while I wait for primer and paint to arrive. I'm a big fan of the Stug III, and love how the superstructure starts to weigh down the nose of the vehicle after some use, and the front suspension starts to sag. I tried to recreate this look. A plank stowage rack was fashioned from .30 Thou card, for the added stowage. Spare track, stollen from a Dragon Pz. IV G kit. Added stowage, in the test phase, and far from complete, yet. And a milled down "damaged" spare wheel, which was a lot harder than I thought it would be... Mounting the wheel in a Dremel tool helped.... Hope y'all enjoy..... Paint and primer is on the way, and however it turns out, it's supposed to be fun, Right ??!! Lee.
M3talpig
Will follow along if ya don't mind...big fan of the Stug's myself and will be interesting to see your take on this interesting infantry support vehicle...great start by the way and nice that you remembered to sag the front suspension.....should give it a really nice profile when its done.
Longbow
I was able to mount the tools, a mix of Tamiya and Dragon. I also settled on the place for the damaged spare wheel. Apparently German crews were paid to pick up discarded wheels. Not sure how true that is. And I fitted a tow cable, with easy access. The stowage is now one complete enblock unit, for ease of painting. Once it’s fully dry, glue wise, I’ll add the tie downs. And here it is in place, and can be easily removed for painting. I’m not planning much mud on this one. Just a lot of dust. Thanks for looking.... Lee.
Longbow
Added the missing antenna trough braces. Set everything aside to dry.
Jasper dog
Nice work going on, I'll tag along if you dont mind. Your technique for creating the suspension sag? Cheers Darryl

Cheers Darryl Pretty simple, just cut off the tabs on the suspension arms, except for the rearmost arms in each side. Glue in the rear arm as it would be in its normal position, and then make sure the front of the hull is flat against your work surface. All other suspension arms are then placed in and glued where they fall. You will have to adjust the height of the front piston, as it will need to fit the now “high” front suspension arm. I hope this makes sense Lee. 1
Jasper dog
Hi Lee, Yep, sounds good to me, great idea. Thanks Darryl
Longbow
I’m still waiting on primer to arrive, but I think I’m at a painting point. I was able get the brace and tie down completed. And added a folded tarp. I may tidy up a few things, and I still have to get a figure completed for it. Thanks for looking !! Lee.

Jasper dog
Stowage "unit" looks good, always think wartime afvs look bare without anything strapped to them somewhere. Darryl

Longbow
Not much to report. with the build process complete it’s time for the primer. I shot a coat of Stynylrez, which is my first time using it. I was quite pleased with the results. In hindsight, I should have probably left the stowage in pieces. Just cuz I hate brush painting lol. Here she is fresh from the paint booth. Hope you enjoy. Lee.
Longbow
I started the Panzer Grey, and fading out. The makings will be next, once the grey has fully set up. Thanks for looking !! Lee.

Ron NL-S
This StuG is looking really good. All the extras make it come to life. I wonder if the sag isn't a bit overdone, though? And do you apply the decals straight onto the paint? No gloss in between?
Jasper dog
Looking good painted, I've heard Panzer grey can be difficult colour to get right and keep interesting. Never tried it myself though. Looking forward to seeing how it comes out. Are the decals the Tamiya supplied ones? With you on the dislike of brush painting too! Always seem to struggle with it, perhaps it's more to do with acrylics being fine to airbrush with but less so for brush, in my experience at least. Cheers Darryl

Photos show that in some cases the sag can be rather extreme. Once the wheels and tracks are on, I’m hoping it won’t be as extreme as some. The decals are straight on the paint. I wanted to test out the AK Clear, which should be applied today. The carrier film will hopefully vanish lol. Lee.

Ernst
This Stug looks crisp. Subtle paintwork. I like the stance you've given it. The jagdpanzer iv's had a similar stance earning them the nickname "guderian-ente" if I'm nit mistaken. Cheers, Ernst.

Longbow
Thanks guys !! OkY, this photo was taken “post” AK Clear primer. It’s thought that this is the same concoction as Badger Stynylrez, but has not been confirmed by Badger or AK. The devils went on on top of the paint, with no first gloss varnish. I hit the decals first with a wet coat, and then covered the whole upper surface. In hindsight I would have probably built up lighter coats.
Longbow
More decal pix. These are the Tamiya decals, and I think after market woul do even better.
