1/72 Kovozavody Prostejov Cessna UC-78A (USAAF)

Dear fellow Britmodellers,

here's my 1/72 KP Cessna UC-78A in USAAF Colors, representing an aircraft of 405th Fighter Group in 1944.

The KP kit seems to be a re-box of the Pavla moulds, originally released in the late 1990s.

Fit is generally good, but I noticed some surface irregularities, especially on the wings. These are easily corrected with sanding sticks.

The clear parts are relatively thick, which resulted in unpleasant light fames around the side windows - I should have painted the fames in a dark color before attaching the clear parts!

I've added brake lines from stretched sprue.

The model was painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics, all photographs by Wolfgang Rabel.

Hi My Friend Roman!!!

Congratulations for this new Masterpiece you have added to the shelves!!!

Have watched this bird and was thinking that you have been feeling nicely out of your comfort zone, as all the non-German related builds look great. In this one I liked a huge lot the way the paint looks and the fine weathering you have applied, all the build appearance is great. I am thinking in add one to the stash as my country’s  air force had one used by the transport service becoming the very first Cessna aircraft in the inventory. BTW, Have you chosen the next subject??? Keep on an go ahead with this nice builds Man!!!

A nice model, but the undercarriage legs are much too long.  Take a look at the attached link....the distance between the top of the tyre and the underside of the nacelle should be less than the diameter of the tyre.

This is a common problem with limited-run kits, where a positive locating point is not provided for the landing gear and it's all too easy to get it wrong.

Could be, but also ( I have the model, but not made yet) I think the landing gear is modelled in an unloaded state, with the oleo uncompressed. I suspect some minor surgery will be needed to get it to sit right.

 

That aside, a very nicely done kit, the paint work is particularly well executed. Regarding the cabin windows - always a problem to get these to look right with thick plastic sides. I think the only solution is to thin down the walls and then use acetate or Krystal Klear

Well that's what I thought when I opened the box ... but I'm sure I read KP saying this was a new tool kit.

You're quite correct. I've not yet seen the KP kits (my order is still somewhere between Europe and the US), but there may be some confusion about the instructions. I've received one report about difficulty locating the rear cabin bulkhead. And it is a new-mold kit; it is NOT a re-issue/rebox of the Pavla kit. I assisted KP with color/markings info for the four KP T-50 kits.

 

Roman's model is beautifully done, the landing gear notwithstanding.

Roman, you and Wolfgang continue to produce some outstanding photo essays.  This Cessna is normally not a subject that would be of interest for me but yet I find it very attractive in the colors you have displayed.  Very nice as usual and thank you for showing me that an airplane does not have to carry weapons in order to be interesting!!!!!

Great results! I like especially your finish and painting work.

 Since its is the  very first Bobcat from KP which I see finished, so besides all what I like in her  I have one doubt to model about the length of gear leg and wheels size. 

Bobcat was not standing that sharp

The whole wheel and u/c leg on above photo has a similar length like cowling or fairing diameter, and in model it  seems to be about x 1.5 longer...

Still, your model looks very attractive!
