Excellent news for RAF Mildenhall, those that work there and the many enthusiasts that visit there to see some of the most varied aircraft visitors in the UK. The relocation of the SOW in particular to Spangdahlem never made much operational sense so its good that common sense has prevailed.

Just a word of caution, I don't think the official statement says they will remain specifically at Mildenhall, just in the UK. Although it would seem to be the obvious outcome, there have been plans to move the RC135 operations to Fairford.

While you are right, there can really be little option for the tankers to stay at Mildenhall. I was given a figure of the amount a fuel tankerage they have there and its pretty large.

Yes the US and UK RC-135s will move to a new facility at RAF Fairford.

With Mildenhall staying open the RC-135s might stay there as well now.

They cannot take off at Max weight, they need a longer runway for that or have to tank after departure. Ours are the same. The overshoot extensions at Fairford are being strengthened to accommodate theirs and ours, so they will move their joint ops there when the work is finished.
