Graham Boak
I remember the Lotnia one - it is basically a copy of the Matchbox Mk.IX so shares that kit's faults as well as introducing more of its own in the way of poor production standards. The 2-seater is the only one of several Lotnia kits that were listed (including the single-seater Mk.IX). I got rid of mine so someone has experience of making it. Or not.

alt-92
I know, I pre-ordered them (locally) as soon as the re-release was announced at the end of August.
72modeler
CMR did a very nice 1/72 kit of the TR9; it's not cheap, but I think it's probably the most accurate and easiest to build of all the available kits. You could also get one of the Eduard Mk VIII's and move the cockpit forward, cut out the opening for the second cockpit, and vacform the rear canopy. IIRC, somebody did the TR9 rear canopy, but I don't recall who it was- Canovak or Aeroclub, possibly? Good luck- the three the Dutch bought were pretty handsome in their TLS colors. See the links below for info on the CMR kit. The last link is to the Mark 1 website- they have evidently taken over the CMR kit range, but the TR9 kit does not seem to be currently available- you could contact them to see if it might be reissued in the future. Looks like the AZ kit is the best of the currently available kits- I would check the rear canopy, as it had a very bulged shape and I haven't seen an injected example that was very accurate; hard to replicate, even as a vacform, due to the extreme bulge. Bell209
If you're not determined to do 1/72, the Brigade Models' conversion in 1/48 comes out quite nicely. It uses the Hasegawa/Revell Mk.IX kit as a base and gets rid o the problematic fuselage in the process. I did mine as SM520, as that's the one I flew. I needed to order quite a few decals and print some, too, though. Have a look at it here, if you like.
Ed Russell
Here's a different one with a shark mouth. Out of stock here at the moment but you can buy one at Biggin Hill. I don't think you have to go in the real one to get the model! https://www.redroomodels.com/product/supermarine-spitfire-tr-9-1-72-scale/

The kit seems to go together well, and the surface details are nice, but as with all the kits based on that set of tools, the fuselage is very short behind the cockpit and the wings are also short in span. I'm in the middle of incorporating the AZ cockpit section into an Eduard fuselage but the mojo has gone awol currently... Justin

Your experience shows that sometimes it is better to settle for something pretty good rather than strive for almost perfection. Still, I do hope you finish your conversion and show us the results.
