Banzai!...1/48 Yokosuka (Kugisho) D4Y1 Model 11 Suisei "Judy" Imperial Japanese Navy

The IJ theme continues...
As far as I´ve read the Judy was Fine Molds first 1/48 release, dating back to 1993. So there are some fit issues. As you can see on the pics, the inner landing gear doors have attachement points for the retraction "fork" but there are no such parts in the kit. Some modelers scratchbuild them but my dad didn´t. The yellow wing leading edges and the dark green outlines of the fuselage hinomarus are painted. Eduard seabelts, EZ Line for the wires, camo done with Tamiya XF-12 JN Grey and XF-70 Dark Green 2 (IJN).

The model shows an aircraft of the 523rd Air Group "Taka (Hawk)-2", Tinian Island 1944

I love the finish.  Japanese WWII planes are interesting to me as they appear to weather much quicker than other countries.  The paint chips, fades and sometimes just peals off in sections.  You did a good job of capturing this.

Looks great. I've just started down the rabbit hole that is Japanese Aircraft colours, man I didn't know there were that many shades of green!

Thanks Brad!

Yeah, lots of different shades, so you have the freedom of choice which one you apply.
