Huub vD Posted July 23, 2020 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Hi I am starting to build the new Armory Models Group 1/48 Fairey Flycatcher. I have got the early version (48001) I am looking for good foto's/drawings of the type of early propeller used as i am not convinced of the shape of the propeller supplied in the kit. (2 types are given a broad one with a pointed tip and a narrower one with a blunt tip) I searched the web but can not find good pictures of the blunt tip version . vildebeest Posted July 24, 2020 Share Posted July 24, 2020 In the MMP book Peter refers to there are a couple of decent pictures of the prototype which show the propeller quite well - blunt tip but whether the same as on production versions I have no idea. Maybe @John Aero might be the man to help you, as I'm almost sure he produced a white metal prop for one back in the day. Best I can do, sorry! Mike My old Aeroclub price list includes a 1/72 one - A.Screw Wooden 1930s R/H Grebe,F.Catcher - suggesting Grebe photos might offer help although it might be the wrong version of the prop for you. The HMS Ramillies Association website has a good picture of a Flycatcher N993 on top of a turret facing the camera with her propeller looking as if it had been carved from a plank of wood. Can't have enough information Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear, there is no image in the price list - I was just suggesting you might find images of Grebes showed the propeller detail you are looking for. Unfortunately none of the above applies as that is not S1278 but G-BEYB, full-size replica built new in the late 1970s and powered by a P&W Wasp Junior rather than anything very much like the Armstrong Siddley Jaguar that powered the originals. While it was a very nicely made aeroplane, and I have fond memories of its limited display career, you can't use anything forward of the firewall as reference. There are no surviving Flycatchers.
