TIE ADVANCED X-1. Bandai 1/72.

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I have started this Bandai kit, magnificent as the others I have of the brand and theme. I did not feel like continuing with the models that I have running. I do not feel like for now correcting this, removing the other or modifying what is beyond; so I have taken this kit from all the ones I have from Star Wars (which are quite a lot and more complex and numerous in pieces).

The interior is exactly the same as the TIE Fighter, only the figure obviously changes because this is Darth Vader's personal fighter.

As a base color I have used Tamiya Neutral Gray. To the front and the inside I have applied a soft dry brush with the same Vallejo MC tone clarified with white, although I have reinforced some details by applying the color with the brush normally. The profiling of details has been with a very dark mixture of Tan oil and Black. The details on the back, the ones on the back of the D.V., are painted with Vallejo MC tones and highlighted in the same way. The figure of D.V. It is painted with several very dark shades of gray and with black the helmet, gloves and boots but I have given the coat a coat of matte varnish and I have given the helmet and boots a shiny finish. It really is a useless job, since I know with cause from the TIE Fighter that almost nothing is going to be seen of the cabin even using a flashlight.

This  is going fast ...

Finished assembling all the parts (few) and masking. I previously painted the solar panels with Tamiya XF-1 black and applied a soft dry brush with dark gray from Vallejo MC.

And base color.

What Bandai proposes is 70% Neutral Gray and 30% White with a blue tip but it seems to me a too dark tone and since the mix I made for the TIE Fighter I did not like it too much and then darkened I used the XF- 82 Tamiya Ocean Gray 50% mixed with XF-2 White.

Maybe the color may seem a little light but I think it will darken a little with the paneling and the varnishes, which is not the first time this happens to me.

Nice work indeed!

Cheers,

Thank you, namesake

Next step: pre shading. A simple technique, which I don't usually use on airplanes, but which I think is suitable for this type of model.

With AK Real Color Extra Dark Sea Gray, I have made fine strokes along most of the panel lines and with Tamiya White XF-2 I have illuminated the space between the panel lines. Subsequently, I have homogenized the appearance by applying 75% of the diluted base color.

Now that I look at the photos, I think I will have to reapply the base color in some places where the dark gray is too visible.
Next step: some accumulated dirt using oils and / or Vallejo MC.

Next step: dirt.

But before applying it, I have given the brush with the base color slightly lightened to some of those little details and relief panels that the surface has.

Afterwards I did apply dirt in places that I think could possibly appear or accumulate, and some trickle (although in space I don't think it would happen ...). Finally, I chose to do it using Vallejo MC very diluted.

Great work .as regards the paint been too light , remember that Vaders TIE only appeared in A New Hope and like the TIE fighters in that film was a very light grey / off white colour unlike the darker Blue grey TIES from Empire strikes back onwards .

Well, this has almost come to an end because after today it is time to put it on the stand. Base that I thought was equal to that of the TIE, square, but being this elongated ship I have considered matching one that is a little elongated too and raised by a methacrylate bar.

Before varnishing it in gloss to outline details and paneling with a very dark mixture of Brown and Black oil, I have reinforced some drips and in the area adjacent to the 4 motors it is provided with, I have used pigment for that of the soot that all the motors let go. I have also painted the frame of the windshield dark gray with a dark gray that turned out to be after looking  the Gunze RLM 74. For the uncovered areas that have the arms I have also used a very dark gray, which corresponds to the Vallejo MC RLM 76.

Then it has only been to place two tiny decals that it has on the outside of the hatch to access the cockpit. The final finish has been applying Vallejo flat varnish.
