Alpha Delta 210
Hi My family and I really enjoyed the Shuttleworth Collection socially-distanced "Drive-in Airshow" yesterday evening. The show finished after 20.00 and unfortunately, it was too gusty at height for the Edwardians. I used my Lumix bridge camera instead of my Nikon digital SLRs and by the end of the show, it was really struggling with the low light levels. Thanks to all involved at the Shuttleworth Collection for organising such a successful event despite the challenges. The Miles Magister did a couple of photo passes before the show started: Thanks for looking. 18

Parabat
Excellent pictures from a lovely day out. Some of those biplane side-on shots look like you were at 3,000ft in formation alongside! Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Latinbear
All very nice indeed. I would echo Parabat's comment as some of them do indeed look like they were taken air to air.
Alpha Delta 210
Thanks Latinbear. I'm pleased that you enjoyed them. It was nice to enjoy the show with my family taking the odd picture, instead of watching it all through the viewfinder!
Alpha Delta 210
I've just looked at the images above on my laptop and decided that they're too low-res - sorry!😉 (They looked fine on my phone...)
John R
It was a tough day photographically wasn't it? I had two extra problems - a new camera that seemed to want to underexpose everything and my allocated parking space was almost next to the trees so oncoming a/c could not be seen. I'll try and get my stuff up soon. By the way, did you stay until the end? What was it like getting out? My friend and I cleared out just after the first Spitfire and Hurricane pass as the light had gone, we had a long way to go and it looked like there would be a lot of cars trying to get out at once. Tripod
Is there another airshow venue that's as good as Old Warden for photography? The ground slopes down to the crowd line, the display line has the option to curve around the two runways for topside shots, and the sun is behind the crowd all day. Sadly, I wasn't able to get there this time as the tickets had sold out by the time I remembered to buy one. Less sadly, that means £90-100k income for the Shuttleworth Trust, so I'm not complaining. As long as it's sunny on 2nd August. Peter
John Masters
Wonderful! Love all the Moth family...that Avro Tutor is a beaut too. I might have to build one like that!

John Hi John. It was indeed! I was hoping for golden sun in early evening, but one can't have everything! We arrived at 16.15, but were in the holding area for about 35 minutes before being parked in Zone C, which as a SVAS member concerned me, however i thought it was a great location with plenty of topsides. We left after the second pass by the Spitfire and Sea Hurricane. 1 hour ago, Tripod said: Is there another airshow venue that's as good as Old Warden for photography? I have a pitch booked for the next show as well! 47 minutes ago, John Masters said: Wonderful! Love all the Moth family...that Avro Tutor is a beaut too. I might have to build one like that! Hi John. Thanks for your kind words! The Tutor in the late afternoon sun was simply beautiful!

vanandjuanunited
Shuttleworth is one of my favourite venues. Would love to get across for one but too expensive for flight accom etc. I usually go to an event that coincides with another -usually RIAT etc. By all accounts it was a fantastic event 👍

It's one of the few air shows where the visitors seem relaxed and friendly and with the sun behind you all day and the gently sloping paddock, photography is great (even at the drive-in show). My wife and my 81-year-old mum enjoyed the show and are looking forward to the next one!
canberraman
Another splendid selection of shots Leigh from what is likely to be one of the few air displays expected to take place this year. Lovely light and some terrific topsides Mark
