Des
Several No.100 Squadron BAe Hawk T.1A from RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire participated in their usual Aggressor and Threat Simulation roles operating from the main ramp at Leuchars. As with the other types involved in the exercise the following images were taken on the ramp and by the runway for departures and recoveries along with some close-ups of the RAIDS Pod , crew entry ladder , undercarriage and stores pylons. Most of the Hawks were in their standard overall gloss black colour scheme but two (XX246 and XX318) retained the special 95th. Anniversary colour scheme applied by the squadron during the previous year. This was a representative WWII Bomber Command Night Camouflage scheme but gloss finished in Dark Green/Dark Earth over Black and with the Skull and Crossbones tail marking repeated under the centre fuselage and across the main undercarriage doors. The number of years of service were represented on the fuselage sides in a typical ‘Bomber Code’ style as 95-Y in red , actual years of service shown in white on the rudder and mission markings in red and yellow on the port side of the nose. All of the aircraft involved carried their usual training stores load of RAIDS Pod (without weights) on the starboard pylon and finless inert AIM-9 Acquisition round to port. Aircraft seen parked on the ramp for the night had the usual rather lurid green coloured tape covering the canopy seals which has long been standard on RAF aircraft parked outside in potentially inclement weather to prevent water ingress.
