Greg Law
This is my backup project because the Ju 88 is rather a big project. it is a Bf 110D Dackelbauch which escorted the Heinkels in the Northern raids on August 15th. I might change the codes as I don't have evidence that this particular plane was on the raid.
Ozzy
Nice choice, I saw one of the in my local model shop last week. I was slightly tempted to add another 110 to the collection.
Greg Law
If it was this boxing I suggest you get it. It is hard to find now unless Eduard has reissued it lately.
Greg Law
I've made a start on this build today. I have painted the parts that need RLM66 and RLM02 so I can make a start on the cockpit. You will notice that I'm building this and the Ju88 at the same time, so each stage will be completed together on both models.
Greg Law
Today was spent mostly on the Ju 88. However, I did manage to paint the guns and put a second coat of RLM66 on the cockpit walls and floors.
Greg Law
Today was more assembly of the cockpit. It is quite complex so is taking time.
Greg Law
This is my cockpit progress. Need a little touch up here and there. The instrument panel is ready to go in as well. This image was from earlier today. Now the cockpit is together.
Greg Law
Fuselage and the wings are together. Now I have to go back to the Ju 88A-1 to match the progress.
Greg Law
Progress is being made. I have the engines together and installed on the wings. There was a fit issue with the engines attaching to the wings which was easily sorted out by scraping away a bit of the wings leading edge at the points where the engine joined it. After that I got a perfect fit. I'm currently putting the nose together with the guns.
Greg Law
This is the progress to date. Still needs sanding etc. I'm rather pleased about the way it went together. I was expecting a lot more problems. I will be giving it brass gun barrels as the plastic ones won't survive me working the plane.
Ozzy
Coming together nicely Greg, it's good to hear it's gone together well.
Greg Law
Slow work on this this week. I managed to install the tail fins and the rear panel above the ammo mags. That is about it. Other than that I've been working up the Ju 88 which now has the nose section joined too the fuselage. I'm also masking up the He 111H-4's RLM70 camo. This is the plane that the Bf 110D escorted on the northern raid. So there is some relevance to mentioning it here.
Ozzy
You've got a lot going on there Greg, I struggle with doing more than 1 build at a time.
Greg Law
1 hour ago, Ozzy said: You've got a lot going on there Greg, I struggle with doing more than 1 build at a time. Yes I have. I do enjoy doing more than one at a time. The Heinkel is built. Just needs painting and finishing in the Heinkel GB. If I get these done in time I plan to do a Bf 109E-4 and a Hurricane next.
Greg Law
Time for a progress image. I have added the belly tank. It is basically ready for the black base undercoat. I'm going for an open canopy. The one shown is just sitting there. Still needs some tidying up.

jean
Hi Greg, excellent and impressive work, especially as you have a few dozen ongoing builds at the same time! Really superb 110. JR
Greg Law
I'm well past this point now Jean. One of my posts must not have taken. The RLM65 is on. Last night I masked it. Today I add the canopy parts and paint the RLM71. Well I didn't get the canopy on today. There were parts I needed to add to it that needed painting. Also I worked on the Hurricane and the Ju88. Just lots of bits and pieces. Both are getting closer to the paInt shop.
Greg Law
Canopy is on using the Roket CA. Hopefully tomorrow I can paint the RLM71. Once the scheme is painted I will put up an image.
Greg Law
Quick update. I painted the RLM71 today. I will give it a couple of days to dry before I mask for the RLM70 This plane will be M8+EK I will need to make the 'E' it is black with a white border which is a bit tricky. The kit one red 'O' is the correct ZG 76, but I can't find out if it was on the raid.
Greg Law
Here is my progress photo. I decided to rick the masking earlier than I intended to. I'm very pleased with the overall look of the plane. I did have the front windscreen on, but I have found that Roket odourless just doesn't hold. I will put it back towards the end of the build.
Ozzy
Looks fantastic Greg, nice job on the Splinter camouflage.
Greg Law
Yes, it is coming along nicely. I have decided to splash out on some resin exhausts and wheels. The kit exhausts are not the best. While I was at it I got the Hurricane an exhaust set. I have a couple of days work to do now, so that will slow things down a bit.
Greg Law
I put the home made 'E' on today. It is a fraction to big, but passable I think.
Greg Law
Bad news. I decided the oversize 'E' is unacceptable and removed them. In doing so the paint work was damage and will need fixing. This will cause a weeks delay. Still in the end it will be a better result. Got out in the paint shop and started the repair tonight. I think I will make a series of decal sizes so I only have to do it once. The decal looked good it was just a millimeter too big. Even that small amount stood out like a sore thumb.
