B-25 Marking/Scheme Ideas

Hi all,

What are your favourite B-25 markings/schemes? I haven't fully decided if I'll be going solid or glazed nose, so I'm interested in everything, however the aircraft will be in plain olive drab. I'm partial to the 345th Bomb Group with the bat face, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to take a crack at hand painting it. Though model building is nothing without risks, right? All in all there are lots of B-25 markings out there I'd like to see!

My personal favorite.  Although not the 345th, it's at least OD/NG.  This is the 48th scale Accurate Miniatures B-25G kit with markings from the 823rd BS/38th BG.  With the exception of the name "Tee-Kay" (and I looked high and low at the time for the proverbial Holy Grail of photos of this plane with no success), the nose art is all "hand-painted." I chose to try and copy the nose art for Lt. Ed Poltrack's B-25 from the same squadron, whom I corresponded with several years ago when I was building this model.  I'm in no way positive if his plane was "Tee-Kay," but absent of any proof otherwise I chose to make it so.

If I can paint this then most anyone can.

I was always partial to Dutch (East Indies) schemes:

The Brazilian and Indonesian stuff is also interesting.

and Indonesia:

And, with a few splashes of white, you get...

Those partial stripped-paint ones are a nice challenge..

RAAF B-25's were in a similar scheme, but don't use the paint scheme on the Airfix B-25 for the RAAF version its wrong , too much Black.

Yeah, it's funny what you can find when something jogs your memory!

Bestfong makes some good decals, including for B-25s, here: http://www.bestfong.com/decal/bestfong-decals-1930-1950

VVS in US applied to Soviet specification camo.

upper in Olive Drab, Sea Gray and Sand, undersides black, this is a poorly reproduction of a pre delivery aircraft taken on a test flight in the US, there are more here, but they have been photobucketed

The B-25 I have is an original Kit from Frog "The North American Mitchell II" (1964) and the Decals that come with it are for the RAF 98 Squadron (FV914 VO-A) with the standard camo design that the RAF used at that time.

I'm guessing that the Decals in my kit are no good and so I will probably have to replace them. So, like Jeff, I'm thinking about the different designs I can have for my B-25.

Hi Jeff,

I recently read Warpath Across the Pacific which is a great book about the 345th BG.  It inspired me to build a B-25 from each of the 498, 499, 500, and 501 Sqdn.  I have already built a Gunship J from the 498th.  So just 3 more.   There are so many good choices among the group to pick from.  Good Luck with your B-25.

How about the camera ship for the filming of “The Battle of Britain” movie?  Would require some kitbashing to modify the nose and tailgun position.

Oops! Sorry.

How will you explain a second B-25 arriving in the post, to OIC Household?

I'll probably encourage her to purchase something she's been wanting to buy, and then say "by the way..." As for scale, 1/48.

How about the `Psychadelic Monster` B-25J used as the Battle of Britain film ship? Drawdecal make a decal set for this in all scales.

I've taken a look at it since you've both mentioned it. Quite a build that would be! I may purchase a separate B-25 for it but I'd likely do something in such colours in 1/72 scale.
