Pappy
G'day people, I was hping someone has some reference pics for the interiors of the external power and forward left avionics bays (the one just behind the nose wheel bay) as I would like to scratch build some details. I have the Aeroguide monograph for the Victor which has agrainy B&W pic taken from a distance but not really ideal. Also as the pictures are not in colour it makes painting a little difficult as I have no clue what the colours would be, thanks in advance, cheers, Pappy Edited July 14, 2020 by Pappy

Martian
There is an outside chance that I may have something somewhere Pappy but it might relate to the B/K 1. I will have a dig around. Martian

DaveH
Hi Pappy, did a little bit on Victors in mid 70's. Used to get days out from the Radar bay (2nd line maintenance) occasionally to help on the squadrons. Don't recall much about front bay, but remember humpin Green Satin radar sets out of the back bay, from memory was natural metal, no paint. Top avionic bay, some in gloss white, some natural metal again. Not what you want, but might help if you have to guess.. Cheers Dave

I am leaning towards an aluminium/silver bay and inner door. Interesting about the green radar sets, I would have said black. From what I have seen of period aircraft, most avionic kit was black, and some had that peculiar 'crinkle' finish as well, cheers, Pappy Edited July 24, 2020 by Pappy
DaveH
Hi Pappy, 'Green Satin' was the name given to Doppler nav radar system fitted to Victors, and some Canberra's, came in Mk1 and updated, more accurate Mk2 version... came in 4 bits, big computer, bigger Tx/Rx, indicator at Navs station, and of course an aerial. RAF gave some strange names to Radars, next one along was 'Blue Silk'. And yes, even with those names, they came in Mr Fords favourite colour... Matt Black !!! Cheers Dave Edited July 22, 2020 by DaveH getting it right

Cheers Dave Ahh, that makes sense, it seems a very british think to give avionics things a name with a colour like Orange Crop (ECM stuff), Blue Vixen/Parrot, same with weapons systems e.g Red Top, Blue Steel, Blue Water (missiles) etc. cheers, Pappy

The idea was that a code name was used by the Ministry of Supply for various systems and weapons projects. The codes were meant to be completely random, so Blue Steel was a missile and Blue Diver was a radio jammer system. Having said that, I always thought that Yellow Sun was a bit obvious for a nuclear bomb!

Harry Lime
A big list can be found here, but as with everything on Wikipedia it is only as good as the info used to compile it and may not be as accurate as it needs to be. Mark.
