Then you speak of trams, perfectly wonderful. Deep in my stash, some of which goes back years, I have a smallish collection of white metal bus models. Must dig them out as I'm sure I once had a tram in there. I know for sure there is a half finished Thomas Tilling ST open staircase bus. Got me thinking that could resurrect as a WIP over in the vehicle section. Glad to see the 101 masked up for dayglo. My Vallejo dayglo went to gloop also, so the T31 and Avon Sabre got good old Revell enamel, and my Norwegian C-47 used MRP's wonderful Luminous Orange RAL 2005. Also have their red RAL 3024. Amazing stuff, thoroughly recommend you try it. Terry Terry I have been exhorted to decant Tamiya Aerosol Dayglo and use that Imagine being harangued by two big burly guys in a model shop not to "Buy that crap, get rid and do this decanting thing!" They think I didn't recognise them but I did, guerilla modellisters from Sutton Co'field. I will 'ave 'em when they'm not looking. Still I did buy the aerosol so I am sure going to give it a go, if the weather warms enough for the stink to evaporate outdoors. (Other wise, well I did buy a new Vallejo that is still liquid in the pot.)

I used to live almost opposite and it was my introduction to model kits. I have been so entertained by your WAH-64 and AW.101 projects that I have extricated a couple of 1:144 kits from the stash. I shall now re-read all your posts to get inspiration to build them. cheers, Mike
perdu
If you knew Bob's back in the day you will have certainly have been in contact with my mate, the late Bill Nicholls who spent years of his life around that shop Mike. Bill and his son Matt have been friends of mine for ages, you might have known them both. Now I am looking forwards to your builds in tinyscale now, can't wait.
perdu
OK first we try a fine coat of Modelaire dayglo from Vallejo. Taking it slowly so another coat can wait for a while, looks good so far.

perdu
Cheers Ced, I found a bigger version of the Stratford Rd photo and hit Google Maps for confirmation And it is confirmed the old picture is taken near Farm Rd, near where that old modelling Mecca used to be Voila One row of shops lost their chimbleys but still recognisable as the same row of shops over a hundred years later, evidence if we Brummies needed it that, if we can keep the City Council and Mr Hilter away our landscape doesn't need to be torn apart every five to ten years... (A sore point to moi, obvs) I have been slaving away over hot typing paper on these plans/drawings Getting there. But I don't want to do this one so now I have to redraw the plans to suit the more Brummie, as Tomo noted there are more pics of three windows buses, omnibuses
Tomoshenko
A dayglo helicopter, vintage pics of Brum, and fine pencil schematic old school style - a trio of niceties to get us in the mood for the weekend. Gonna be a corker once the research is done and the build starts Bill.
Massimo
This brightness is the perfect contrast to the Apache's darkness! I like this colour!!! And those pencil plans make me curious!!!! Look forward for the next update!!
perdu
The pencil plans are the future round here soon Massimo, I will be oftentimes to be found doing vehicles again As I hope will Tomo, who tells me he has a bus lined up as a future subject, I wonder if it will be one of these? This one seems to be a standard horse bus body transplanted onto a petrol engined chassis, I have the body drawings already. Tempting for us Brummies this one... The photo has been borrowed from the Birmingham History Forum's fabulous section on The Birmingham Bus
bootneck
Co...in...cid....ent...ally..... that is the junction with Main Street, which was the street my school friend lived. We would often go down to a cafe near to the railway bridge and play the juke box there. Mike

Vale-Onslow on the corner of Kyrwicks Lake Rd and just nearby the large 'second hand everything' shop Garrett's. So many memories from back in those days, I was applying new number plates to freshly registered bikes after we sold them. Making up plates including the old bacon slicer double-sided front plates with C registrations and building the bikes fresh out of cases from Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. Really exciting for a sixteen year old kid.
The Spadgent
🎼🎷🎻🪕 Daaaaaaayy glo. Daaaaaaaaayyyyyeeee gglloowwoo. 🤣🤣👍👌😇 Brilliant work on the Colours. The wonderful shots of Brum are before my time. I can just about remember the Gorilla by the market and Beaties being the biggest model shop in the whole wide world. 😮😍 Excellent line work too. perdu
Thanks Johnnie and well done Beatties was the very best model shop on the planet. But not so good for little long lost esoterica as places like Kings Heath Models were, or Bearwood Models in Constitution Hill. I first discovered Slater's rod there and my modelling was transformed. Does not look much different but here is the ASR Queen in the second coat of Glo I think one more misting coat and the blacking can go on.

perdu
Well that is it, I've only gone and done it now I started talking about the horse bus idea over there So ideally now I have to get on with it whilst waiting for Merlin paint to cure...
Tomoshenko
Lovely work Bill. Yes that is most likely the bus, or similar I will be building. I believe that one in particular is a Tilling-Stevens chassis with a Daimler body. There are differences between that and the Airfix Type B omnibus (I read somewhere that it isn't actually based on Type B, but an earlier or later version), but it will serve as a suitable base for conversion. Again, sorry about going off on a tangent on your thread Bill, but you got me all excited.
perdu
Didnt get you too excited to get on with that Avro/Cierva beastie did it Tom? Hope not, anyway a bit more paint shop news. I think the wrappings are going to come off this tonight, there are minor anomalies that might need touching in to sort them but I am happy with the main effect. The underside chevrons need dealing with next, I have the Xtradecals sheet with printed ones on it but there are so many excrescences underneath I don't think decals will work. We can look this evening huh? If you look very carefully you might see someone else who has been awaiting a hospitable time in the spray paint shop No the Queen is not forgotten, she gets more attention soon. This will not be my last S-61N either, I have further ASR work in mind for next year If

perdu
Whassat? Looks like an origami flower maybe, but not in a pretty way. Masking off and lots of/some/a few bleed-unders but not too bad when you consider I was going to have to touch in some of the white anyway. Its a bit like that on both sides but I am not dismayed, I did expect it because I only had narrow tape to mask with and I find that happens with narrower stuff Some of this will simply scrape away with a fresh Swann-Morton no2 craft knife blade then a swift mask of the dayglo bits will have her under the decal cosh next week. This bit needs careful thought though Paint the stripes or use these?
Tomoshenko
Notwithstanding the bleedin' bleed issues I'd plump for paint as opposed to decals. 5 hours ago, perdu said: Didnt get you too excited to get on with that Avro/Cierva beastie did it Tom? CedB
I’m with Tomo - getting the decals to settle over those greeblies would be awful. Mind you, masking’s not going to be much fun either...
Ex-FAAWAFU
Paint. The chances of a) matching paint & transfers and b) getting the transfers successfully be-greebled are slim.
