Plumbum
Who made 1/72 F-4E decals for the shark mouth Phantoms in Vietnam with JV and JJ tail codes? Thanks---John
Scout712
Microscale did a sheet long time ago (should be 72-005) covering several early F-4Es from the 388th during the bombing halt. https://picclick.de/F-4E-Phantom-5Usaf-Okie-Spunky-Vi-Shark-Teeth-Microscale-Decals-1-48-263633895980.html#&gid=1&pid=1 Superscale 72-112 also had some. https://modelingmadness.com/scott/decals/super/ss72112.htm Twobobs made a sheet (72-034) covering 69-7551 from 1972. https://www.scalemates.com/de/kits/twobobs-aviation-graphics-72-034-f-4e-sea-heroes--136530# Even though the markings provided are correct, the discription is erroneous at parts. That jet is from the 469th TFS (JV) and carried crewnames before it claimed the MiG kill. With the kill mark (which was never approved) it did not carry crew names. Anyway, that jet had a rich history and even flew as G during Op Northern Watch. It was also one of the very first E models to sport the long gun muzzle fairing and not the short one as depicted on the sheet. And phinally Wolfpack Decals made one. http://www.millcreekconsultants.com/WP72-A090.html That one is still available. Hope that helps Michael Edited July 9, 2020 by Scout712
CT7567
Microscale still offers a sheet with markings for "Betty Lou": Micoscale 72-0048 Edited July 9, 2020 by CT7567
Guest
Thanks, I also came across a Two Bobs sheet and it had erroneous info. It said 69-7551 had a short gun muzzle when the images of it take by pilots in Thailand show it with a long muzzle. Did they change muzzles in Thailand?---John

I am not sure if the Midas 4 muzzle was retrofitted in the field in Vietnam but surely during that timeframe to other jets. Take a look here: http://www.milavnarc.com/f-4e_phantom_307th_tfs.html Those jets returned from Vietnam in in November 72 and had the long muzzle despite being an earlier production block that 69-7551 , so they originally had the short muzzle, but they might have received the mod before deploying as summer help in 72. rossm
There was also a Modeldecal sheet (16) which featured "Here Come The Judge" and "Wreckin Crew". Sadly long out of print but I did see one on fleabay a year or so back. One day I'll finish my Hasegawa kit with mine (bought from Modeltoys many years ago) but the paint job is not looking right so it's on THAT shelf.
