Recommended Posts

Do we like these better then?

Not quite finished, but nearer the original I think.

Also first print of the cam belts. Not great, V2 will be better

Joking aside if anyone does have access to any sort of F40 engine dimensions they would be my new best friend.

Regards,

Nick

I believe the website is www.ferrarif40.de

Rich

Rich that page just redirects to a German car servicing company, which I’ve had a good look through and no F 40 material, so it looks like it’s been taken down - unless you can still see it yourself somewhere? Was it maybe an old link?

Hi Nick, the new rendering looks a lot better.

I'm still looking for the website of that german F40 rebuild (if it still exists, it's been over 20 year ago since I last saw it).

Here's a couple of screenshots that show the cam belt assembly :

And I found these online :

I finally found some good photos of the Autograph water cooling pipes (your latest rendering looks a lot better !) :

@ Codger : I've tried left and right to get scale plans and/or dimensions of F40's and F40 parts, nobody wants to share that kind of information. I've contacted Ferrari, Michelotto, garages and workshops : nada.

There's a garage not far from my home that maintains and rebuilds exclusive cars (mostly Ferrari). I could ask them permission to visit and take measurements of an F40 motorblock, but - even from them - it's very rare to have a disassembled F40 engine.

Contrary to popular believe I don't own a real F40, nor do I have parts lying around everywhere in my house (LOL).

But I'm sort of the local F40 "affectionado" here and very willing to help with info and photos.

Sincerely

Pascal

Finished reworking (virtually) the waterways, which make more sense now in fairness

Similar angle to Pascal's photo earlier:-

The cam belt photos have highlighted a few errors, My tensioner idlers  are picking up on the wrong bolt holes on the cylinder head, so the cam back planes are both in error as well it turns out

More reworking then!

You've got much better references than I have I!

regards and thanks

You nailed it Nick ! Waterways look perfect.

I've gathered a much F40 info / references as possible during the last 20 years. Hoping to finish my 1/8 scale F40 Beurlys project in the future.

The cam belt photos are screenshots from the almost 3hr DVD, let me know if you need more photos.

Sincerely

Pascal

I know you'll have done your homework but that Jubilee clip looks strangely out of place on an F40. I wish I knew better, but it does look out of place. Not a criticism, just a raised eyebrow...

I think it is correct. If you look at the exploded view in post #145, it is drawn there as item #44.

Yup,

it's a fairly fancy silicon/shiny blue hose affair, but it does indeed have humble jubilee clips - honest!

I must admit I've been putting this off, but I finally got around to tackling the dreaded throttle bodies today. I don't think there is a straight line on the bloody things. Anyway, done now.

Wow again ... hard to believe you've just learned this on your own Nick ... but I do.   Really impressive work on those latest parts.   Don't know what "sketching with splines" means but it doesn't matter.   Keep going!

Whilst this is close, ultimately it's not right.

Have another go tomorrow!

there's a lot going on with these things, many subtle shape changes and flares that you don't notice until you try to replicate the damn thing!

Very nice work Nick,

Those parts indeed have  a lot of complicated curves :

That's called a 'plenum' friend Pascal.

-And don't give me that bologna that you don't have these parts sprinkled in your attic, basement, pantry and under your bed !! :nono:

@Dan - good idea, I do have some old printers. I figured the cam belts out in the end thanks, so shouldn't need them.
