I thought they had dropped the symbol at the end of WW2 when the aircraft markings changed to a blue and white roundel.

On aircraft, yes but not on the badge on their uniform etc

Heh!

The lines between history, tradition, coincidence and what’s inappropriate can be very fine ones!

I seem to recall quite a few unit patches from the 1960s to the 1980s that would raise eyebrows today!

Seriously off topic, but here goes...

As far as I can recall, there’s always been a bit of a friendly bunfight between Australia and South Africa as to which country has the second oldest Air Force (both dating from 1920/1921, I believe).

What’s the go with Finland, as theirs seems to have been formed in 1918?

🤔

All the others are just Johnnie-come-latelies

Yeah!

I do like watching the Australia/South Africa bunfight - aren't they just fighting over who gets to be the first loser?

German Luftwaffe Geschwader 74 was officially named "Mölders" until very recently...

Have they dropped that title as well?

Is Richthofen "safe" being WW1 or is that considered too risky to upset the snowflakes?

But the RAAF has the more recent air-to-air kill than the RAF....

British Phantom vs Jaguar notwithstanding, the SAAF has also shot down some real aircraft - Hinds, Hips and Fishbeds:

I was living at the RAAF Darwin Mess at the time of the CATM debacle. One of the guys had a commemorative cake made - complete with (scale) CATM through it - to mark the end of Pitch Black. It was, as they say, too soon.

Try to contact the Ilmavoimat museum.

www.ilmavoimamuseo.fi

Maybe they can send by postal service.

The museum may close soon due to the inquisition of the politically correct.
