Judging by the photos of the RCN corvettes, you can go as far as you want.  Many have more rust & primer showing than paint.

I would say go all the way down to the bones these little ships where well used and abused judging by that last photo  👍

Using the hairspray technique I always found that if you did take to much off then you could just add back in further patches so as to create the effect of patching /repair work and give a layered effect  :book:

Cracking job or should I say peeling job done thus far.

Safe to say it did so to an impressive degree already Kev.

I never realized quite how badly the paintwork suffered on these vessels so interested to see how far you take this process.

Kev - I think it looks super, and can take a lot morre.  One trick is to use different tools to "abrade" the paintwork ro get different effects.  I use a "cut-off" worn down range sanding stick and a very short bristled brush to "Scrub".  An accupuncture needle to scratch the surface is also effective.  You might want to tie this all together after with a Filter.  Mig Ammo "Grey for White" 1501 is one I intend using.

Final result is going to be Superb - you've beaten me to this as this was exactly the brief for HMCS Eyebright - still on the build menu

Stay Safe and keep avoiding those........

I did my best

and moved on to weathering stealing borrowing an idea from those noisy AFV fellas. Is it called pin wash ?

Basically I dampened down an area with white spirit, dots of various colours (4). and blend it all in with a w/s dampened fan brush. I trust you like the results.

So far I have only applied rust where there is an obvious reason for it but I think a bit more around the plates might be called for. What do you think?

It's getting the balance right. I want her worn but not ready for scrapping...

Definitely cracked it there Kev very convincing scrape along the side  👍

I would maybe go with a little more rusty wash along the plates but keep it thin and just build it up in specific areas

Really enjoyable master class here mate.

Apparently not a lot....

Good tip. I've used the the AK rust effect colors throughout. The Tamiya bud proved useful on the light rust staining.

Like minds.....

I've increased the small stains along the hull and used further colours on the existing stains. Anchors added to give context to bow area staining. Oil tide mark (collected in port) added to the waterline.

For those not of a nautical disposition the patches of red in the peeled areas is red lead a popular primer, not rust.

Looking at this the rust patch back from the anchor needs reworking

Last view from a U boat??

Any further rust/staining will be left until the deck is in place so I can see where the natural run offs are

Agreed, apart from the lack of the obligatory flock of seagulls following in the ship'd wake.

Went away for a while and discovered that Outlook has been dumping a lot of inbound posts from Britmodeller into Spam. Not a happy bunny!!!

Also discovered that The Wife has been deleting lots of posts so they weren't "filling up her phone." She has no clue how the internet and email work, it's a seriously dark magic to her. As is "cooking"...

... And "Modelling"...

I'm convinced she was a Seagull in a previous life.

Sorry! Crack on Kev!

I did cross my mind but.. that would require all weapon systems to be manned. A considerable number of figures
