Steve D
Just catching up after my break Kev. Its looking outstanding, such a tough thing to get right. These boats took such a bettering, the actual pictures look far worse that you would ever dare to go with a model. I think you've struck a very good balance . longshanks
Thanks to you all for your kind comments and likes... On the advice of my Doctor (read Psychiatrists ) I'm going to put this on the shelf for a little bit. As I said in the begining this was way out of my league PE wise and I'm finding it stressful. The final straw that kicked the camels back out of the ball park.... I've been trying for a considerable time to model the port lifeboat swung over the side ready for use. I finally get there and drop the piece as I'm getting ready for pics. The davits are completely useless and by the time I release the boat the PE will be as well Looking like a complete scratch build of the davits ........ Time for some R & R Stay safe Kev 9
Dads203
Sometimes its best to take time away from a subject Kev, come back to it with a fresh frame of mind mate and not spoil the final product. Now looking forward to the intermediary project, can you give us a hint of what it will be?

Terry1954
Been there Kev, horrible feeling, but as Dan says take some time away, I'm sure you will be able to sort things later. Notwithstanding the damage, the whole thing looks quite awesome. Looking forward to this again at some point, meanwhile lets check out that LCM 3 Diorama.... beefy66
Bit of a bummer when this happens but you get used to it believe me I know. that is why I have soo many started kits on the go Looking forward to the next little project develop Stay Safe beefy
Steve D
That's such a shame Kev, but I fully understand the mindset that says, I'm not doing this well enough so leave it for a while. I have probably 6 models in that state, some of which I may actually decide to finish one day. And davits and boats rigging is tough when you've set such a high standard to start with, looks like a good call 👍 Relax, it's supposed to be fun, not hard labour, the LCM looks like fun to me Steve
Chewbacca
Some utterly superb work going on here and such a shame about the boat/davits. I'm sure though with a man of your talent they are recoverable. 1
robgizlu
All of the above - I think those davits actullay look pretty good - won't take much to re-align - the camera is a cruel mistress. However the LCM looks very therapeutic - back to that "Lyrical modelling" (A school of early 21st Century modelling pioneerd by the Cornishman, Kevin Longshanks) Rob

The answer is going to be making 4 x brass davits and work from a position of strength. Much as I'm enjoying the build results its the flagellation involved in each stage... give me time to heal and " I'LL BE BACK !! davecov
I expect quite a few corvette davits ended up like that after a few North Atlantic goffers had hit them! Seriously, I hope your R and R restores your mojo! Dave

Gidday Kev, I think Davecov makes a good point. Considering that your ship is rather weathered and has suffered at what the North Atlantic has thrown at it, could you use those davits anyway? A bent/damaged locker, vent, stanchion or gun shield added to show the overall effects of storm damage. Just a thought. It would be a pity not to use what you've built. HTH. longshanks
Dave and Jeff Thank you for your lateral thinking. Seemed like an idea until I realised that any sea capable of doing this to the davits would probably smash the lifeboat to match wood Kev

longshanks
Its been a while, struggles with Mojo and release gear on lifeboats.. New brass davits tapered and bent New chain .07mm wire plaited half the size of the PE which equaled 3" chain ? Now all I've got to do is figure how how to portray the release gear/attachment Mk 5 so far......... Splinter mats from plastic card and yes peeking over the top a Micromaster 20mm oerlikon. If the big boys can have them....... Not bad, i'll remind you this is 1/144 If anyone is wondering why Devon is tier 2 instead of tier 1 like Cornwall It's because they put cream on scones before the jam, Just so wrong........
