Hi Everyone

As my Fw-190 is coming along nicely I thought I'd also throw this one into the mix. Eduard's Messerschmitt 109G-10 Erla. I've been wanting to have a go at Eduard's  late war 109's for a while so here's a good opportunity.

Obligatory box and sprue shots below.

This is a Bunny Fighter Club boxing and so along with all of the usual Profi Pack goodies it also comes with a set of resin wheels, extra sprues for the wings with the oblong bulges for the fatter tyres on the upper wings and an extra decal option which is the colour scheme that I'm planning to build.

Yellow 7 of 11./JG 300 found at Prague-Kbely airbase at the end of the war. The engine cowlings most likely being replacements and painted in standard RLM 74,75 and 76 and the front part of the nose being 81 and the fuselage from the fire wall back being a mix of 81 and 82 and wrapping underneath the fuselage. The underside of the wings are RLM 76 with some panels left as NMF.

This is a pic from Eduards website as the scheme isn't included in the normal instructions and has to be downloaded separately.

And a screen shot.

Anyway, I've cut some plastic and started gluing so will post some progress soon.

Thanks

James

I think it's an interesting scheme and shows the general confusion towards the end of the war in the German aircraft industry with different sub contractors components being painted in different camo schemes and then coming together on the final assembly line in an attempt to get aircraft of the production lines. The engine cowlings being painted in standard RLM 74,75 and 76 and the front part of the nose being 81 and the fuselage from the fire wall back being a mix of 81 and 82 and wrapping underneath the fuselage. The cowl panels are likely replacements.

The photos I have seen of the Erla 109's in the dark scheme usually have matching cowl panels.

there is a Flickr here of Erla G10's which maybe of use

this maybe of interest as well, as AFAIK it's a colour image of the scheme (don't think it's a G-10 from the engine bearer) but the only others I have seen in this lo-vis markings are from Erla

i'm annoyed at Eduard for making the version with wide bulges a blinkin' BFC version....

Hello Troy

Thanks for the info as always.

That makes sense re the cowl panels. Great colour photo there and Flickr album too. I’ll have a proper trawl through those later.

Hi all

I made start on this one last week with the cockpit coming together and a first coat of RLM 66 on. This will be followed by a black brown wash, dry brush and flat coat and maybe some chipping here and there.

Pics below.

I decided not to use allot of the etch provided as the plastic detail is quite nice already. I'll also use some of the decals provided but will deffinately use the etch instrument panel.

Thanks for looking.

Hi all

I'm well overdue for an update so here goes.

Once the cockpit and other parts were painted and the photo etch parts added everything was given my usual wash of 50/50 Kleer and water with a small amount 50/50 black and red brown mixed in for some shadows and general dirt. This was followed by a light grey dry brush and some light chipping and finally a flat coat.

The cockpit parts were then offered up to the fuselage halves and everything fitted pretty well.

And the etched instrument panel and gun sight.

This is where it's at now. Most of the joins needed a bit of filler though nothing major. As with all Eduard kits there are plenty of mating surfaces and careful test fitting is required.

I also fitted the etch covers for the exhausts. I wasn't going to use these as I thought they may be quite fragile but I'm pleased I now as i think look pretty good.

The UC bays have also been sprayed RLM 02 and canvas areas painted and now just need a bit of weathering. TBH these were a pain to fit as they're supplied in three parts and needed some chopping to get to fit correctly. Nothing a new scalpel blade wont sort though!

I'm onto the radiators now and the housing for these isn't keen on fitting but once they're on i should be near the primer stage.

That's all for now.

Thanks for looking. Questions and comments welcome as always.
