wow Ced. Sounds like you've had some challenging ah... ehrrr ...challenges over the last few days of this build.

It looks like you're coming out on top. For the most part anyway. Sometimes upside down, sometimes back to front, but mostly on top.

Thanks hendie - trying to right myself as I type :D

I'm sure you'll do a great job Simon :)

I did have a special secure* terminal start smoking and catch fire on me once. Lots of Mission Impossible jokes after that one!

Adrian

Thanks Adrian :)

All looking good on the "Trio" Ced.

The lady R. dug her Airfix Hurricane out the other day, and following your thread is been quite useful for her.

How`s Molly?

Simon.

Thanks Simon - glad Rose is finding the thread useful :)

Mols is a bit more sprightly so hopefully the antibiotics are working.

Hi Ced,

I just had to say that the B-36 is awesome (not a term I use often), my ghast is suitably flabbered! And is that a Sea Fury?

Do the Arma kits have the pipe thingy? I've not spotted it on the sprues.....

Looking forward to the next instalment :)

Kind regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark, very kind. Yep, that is a Sea Fury - the one that claimed a Mig-15 in Korea. Interesting.

I can't see the pipe thingy on the Arma kits - weird. :)

Funny you should say that.

Our daughter is Sally Anne. She was only ever called Sally Anne when she was in trouble!

Otherwise, Sal or Sally.

…and I bet it was in your gruffest voice too, eh John?

Sometimes. Other times it was exasperated, cross or alarmed. Usually cross🙄

:rofl2:

Could be worse than that. E.g. Horst Bärbel or so.  I'm calm and relaxed (geschmeidig) on that  at all.  Always nice to hear, when people say "nice and unique name". I also like  to meet people that don't checked it. I like their faces when I walk in and say "Hello I'm here for my appointment: Mrs. Budde at ten o'clock." Priceless!

Btw The kits coming along very nicely. Fine work Ced. The Invader looks also rather nice there.

Cheers

Thanks Ben :)

I would say, yes, you did fit the tank in wrong. Wrong side up, to be exact.

[snip pic]

But, as you're building it wheels up, no worries!

Chris

Thanks Chris :)  I wouldn't be surprised, despite Airfix's little diagram - it obviously confused me rather than helping!

I have done a bit today.

The Airfix bits don't quite fit the Arma:

Either Airfix's tyres are too big or the Arma bays are too small - I suspect the former.

Whatever, if you file this much off the tyre (it's hidden anyway):

50126084262_55ffd0c66c_z.jpg

…then put the tyre in first, you can get an acceptable fit:

This is what I really like about a Ced build (and the banter).  Thanks Ced.

I managed to get the tank in the right place but it was only after a lot of dithering and searching to see what other people had done.

Thanks Johnny, Roger, John and Andy :)

Molly says woof 🐾

Looking to fit the clear parts soon.

Airfix:

See the part bottom left? Underside signal light (is that right?) When are you supposed to fit that then?

I've checked the instructions and it seems, not.

Oh well, remind me to stick some glassy stuff in there later.

The Armas come with nice nav lights:

50128810941_12e6dbc896_z.jpg

Pre-drilled hole for the bulbs and everything.

But why the bit sticking out of the end? It's on both sides, and on both kits?

Weird.

Of course I have to saw their locations out from the plastic and decided the Airfix deserved some scratched lights too.

I should have done the Armas first, then I would have noticed that the Airfix panel lines were NOT the light:

50128275398_008553d695_z.jpg

…and not chopped so much out. Rats.

Soon sorted:

50129085472_7752a7b280_z.jpg

They'll need sanding, of course, as will whatever clear bit goes in there.

The pilots are in though:

50129117782_d794890f0a_z.jpg

No they don't fit without surgery.

Move along now, nothing to see here…

Would it be in poor taste to suggest that one of the Hurricanes be finished as V7467 LE*D?

By the way, and apologies for asking this but I can't spot a reference to it in your earlier posts, on the Arma Expert kit did you simply pare away the cockpit sidewall detail to fit the etched parts, or did you need to actually thin the fuselage sides?

Many thanks and kind regards,

Mark

Ah, now then. The instructions tell you to cut off the detail, which I did, but a bit of extra thinning would have helped me fit the pilot. They don't show over the edges though so no real need.

Airfix canopy. Doesn't fit and isn't right - see Troy's thread here.

could vac form another but my mojo's low at the moment.

It's only a gnat's whisker too thick.

Um…

50130671283_11bb999b8d_z.jpg

I really must see my dentist again soon…

Thinned the top back frame and sanded the spine a little:

50130689703_c74d762456_z.jpg

Sorry it's blurry, I blame the Dremel for giving me shakes.

Better:

50131484812_a910324805_z.jpg

Not perfect, but it does push down, fingers crossed the glue will hold it.

What colour is behind the canopy back?

Interior or camo?

Mark @2996 Victor apologies - you CAN see the top of the PE over the edges:

50132549447_26d08d3407_z.jpg

A bit more paring required methinks - or more care, probably.

As I know Troy is popping in from time to time and as I had some tools about the Airfix fabric wing got de-ribbed behind the ammo covers:

50132344986_13ef2216d2_z.jpg

Now then, those nav lights. Swords to the ready!

50132363401_f126feda1d_z.jpg

In my defence I had another lousy night's sleep so this seemed to make sense:

50132599872_a110eed02b_z.jpg

The swords have two leading edges.

They are more than twice the thickness of the light.

Ergo, saw a bit in half.

Fuzzy logic I call it.

Out with the I-think-this-is-the-right-CA-this-time:

50131832198_cf1384bc38_z.jpg

It certainly didn't set straight away and gave me some wriggle time. Then I zapped it with activator.

50132388171_6ae4b84017_z.jpg

If you're going to do this, lousy sleep or not, don't forget to drill and paint the bulbs first

Feeling guilty about the bulb thing? Who, me?

Not now, after reading this:

…and Ian's next post: "Without being lit the bulbs have virtually no visible colour to them."

Phew :phew:

While the DG is drying around the back of the canopies and the nav lights are curing I thought I'd 'do the props'.

I dropped my #6 blade while tidying the spinner and it, briefly, stuck in my ample 'lockdown tummy':

Still, never mind the Hurris are looking good! :nodding:

And the usual question as we draw to the conclusion of a Ced build - what's next....?? 🤣

Er, just Mrs R, sorry Keith :D

What's next? PAINT! Then I might think about the next one (although Adrian's kindly donated Belvedere is prime candidate now that Bill has finished showing me how…)

Thanks Bill :) 'Twas only a small puncture…

CA on the nav lights dry? Sanded roughly to shape and then out with the Micromesh set:

I do actually find this quite therapeutic when I'm in the mood.

Gently rub the pad over the surface until the scratching stops.

Next pad the same at 90o ish.

Soon it's shiny:

50132155983_09279cedac_z.jpg

Should have remembered to polish the back and paint the bulbs. Next time.

Canopies on!

We have friends coming for lunch so I need to prepare the garden furniture.

There will be beer…
