S'easy. It’s a magical silver, mined by the Dwarfs in Tolkien's fantasy world. When made into armour and mail coats it confers immunity against many sharp weapons. Frodo famously wears a jerkin made of Mithras chain mail that saves his his life early in the first book.

Sorry. I was quite the Lord of The Rings nut back in the day.

:rofl2: Me too. In fact, I may watch the movies again…

Ouch indeed - get well soon thumb!

Use some Tamiya tape on that plaster Ced, it'll stick much better! :)

K

Thanks Keith - good tip! :)

Very much doubt it. How do you define 'accurate paint colour'...??!!

Me too. But just imagine trying to get a colour swatch, even in middle earth Mithril was pretty rare.

Soapbox out. Colour is a combination of the object the lighting and the observer ‘S perception( psychometric testing anybody) So allow for age, weathering, lighting conditions and basically there is no such thing :) Soapbox back.

Quite.

Good points both - I'll remember your explanation Mark next time someone queries a finish of mine! :D

Mithril Silver - perhaps @CedB should  paint his thumb with it before undressing anymore chairs............

Just a thought......!

Now there's an idea! Mithril Silver modelling gloves - nice and light and scalpel proof! :D

... or at least keep the superglue handy ...

Always Adrian, always, but this one bled too much and was sort of 'flappy' so plastering it down was better :)

Well that is what it was developed for.

Indeed! I wonder if the medical version works on PE? :D

True I guess I am a bit of a freak being medically retired (disabled), I have all day to research and build. If you ever need help researching im always willing to help. Just tag me using the @ symbol or P/M me to let me know. If i cant find the answers I will at best try to point you in the best direction I think will help you.

Dennis as Keith says that's very kind of you :)

As a fellow retiree (old) it's nice to have the time eh?

Nice talk about the dogs too chaps - Molly is a continual source of amusement and affection, bless her 🐾

Great! Not only do I somehow manage to miss a Ced thread for an entire 4 pages, but when I do find it, he stabs himself!

I'm going for a beer, call me when normality resumes.....

Ian

Hi Ian :)

Going for a beer eh? Do you really expect us to come and get you? As for normality returning, very unlikely in this thread… :D

I/P transfers on.

Airfix:

…and first transfer on for the PE and 'kit' versions:

The second one in the right hand pic is for the non-PE version.

In other news the garden furniture's assembled.

I found out that there's a folded end on the tape that, if you pull it, allows you unwrap the paper cover on the arms.

There's a similar end on the bubblewrap around the legs and that too let's you unwrap with ease.

Inscrutable.

Pity I didn't find it until chair six of eight…

Not a problem I enjoy research, SWMBO jokingly calls it looking at airplane porn. Well its my way of trying to pay forward help that Ive received over the years both here and other places. Yes it is but can become a bit mind numbing at times.

Ced, you're only allowed to slice your thumbs when modelling, it's in the rules, you know... :D

Nice progress anyway

Distressed at tidings of you getting all Hannibal on the opposable Ced but glad to see it hasn't affected progress on the Hurricanos.

Hope you get some sun to enjoy the new furniture!

Thanks Tony :) We're hoping for sun too - or at least a break from the showers…

Mrs B did buy an 'Event Shelter' so I think we're covered for Sunday (see what I did there?)

Thanks Keith and Giorgio - I agree! :D

(The two transfer version is prettier though eh?)

Just had a look at the Arma site to see what's the best way to buy.

They have over-trees available today for €9, but only 'available in a set' with the BoB Limited Edition pre-order (€14.50) for €21.15. Bargain!

Anyway, I… wait, where's everyone gone??!!

Oh, you're back. How many did you order?

I can't see the 'kit' on the site at the moment so there's no point in me carrying on - just buy what you need from the amazing selection!

Right, assembly.

Airfix:

50071188216_2195dacb5a_z.jpg

50071311691_aa5765c27d_z.jpg

Easy. You can't see anything inside eh?

Just as well 'cos my frame didn't join up:

50071312551_4e103398ae_z.jpg

Bit short shot? Not my cutting - the gates are on the side. Oh well, no one's going to see it.

Arma Expert seat:

50071624082_e617eb5bb8_z.jpg

Don't forget to paint the seat adjuster before you stick it on. Ask me how I know.

Compass and support:

50070811018_2cb96f41b5_z.jpg

I thought I'd stopped tiny 🙄

White pencil on the compass:

50071373936_b5c9fcc99d_z.jpg

…and frame where you need to bend the sides into an 'L' then together:

50070820663_9990dc94af_z.jpg

Tip - paint both sides on the fret

It's on:

50071654317_224ed05dcb_z.jpg

I know it's upside down but, after fiddling to get the support onto the panel there's NO WAY I'm going to move it until the glue's dry.

The postie delivered these this morning:

50071701642_b171dee191_z.jpg

HUGE thanks to @Troy Smith - the 'spare' couple have been popped into the other Hurricane boxes in my stash.

Nice.

Did you check the postage though? I was tempted by a couple of Eduard Tempest overtrees to use up some of the decals in my profipack kit, but the postage was just about as much as the trees themselves - and put the price about the same as a full kit from Hannants! I'm pleased in a way as I still haven't started the profipack kit that I bought when it was first released, so gawd only knows when I thought I'd get round to the overtrees!

Nice tiny work again Ced!

Overtrees are just the plastic parts of a kit, no etch or decals, at about half the price of the complete kit. A good idea if you have lots of spare decals and other bits  for a particular type, but as mentioned above be aware of the postage costs.

Sorry to hijack you Ced.

Eduard

Ah.

There's a difference, Arma's P&P costs are very much within reason* and pretty standard.

Eduard's P&P however increases with every item added even if it is transfers or PE. And listed ex VAT.

*they also package rather cleverly - if you look closely at the sprues themselves you'll see they are rather compact but also stackable.

So they can put the extra sprue set in the same box which is already half the size of an Eduard box.

Smart.

Ah, no Keith I didn't, sorry - I don't remember the delivery being expensive and I've just checked - €6.75 to ship my two kits (costing €25.58).

Not too bad though eh? :)

Jur and Mark please don't worry about any question - it's how I learnt!

As John says (thanks John) Overtrees (not overtures, blasted spell check) are great if you have the transfers and can download the instruction sheet.

I think they're called that because they over produced a planned batch. Maybe.

Can you see the hook shaped red patch? Nasty. Still amazed at how our bodies repair themselves…

Arma Expert gets its port side wall:

50071859401_0ff661481c_z.jpg

Lovely fit with the little nick out of the bottom left hand corner.

It doesn't fit against the plastic though:

50072109452_81f0f025ff_z.jpg

Is it supposed to be like that?

Here's the step for this side:

50072141412_523830cab9_z.jpg

I've built complete models with less parts than that.

Probably.

Nice details though.

I got this far:

50071892911_9e38f5f2e1_z.jpg

…but then needed a rest.

More later.

mmm.... I don't think it's overproduction - rather smart salesmanship.

They know they have a good kit, and the boxed versions ship with multiple options in decals (especially the Expert sets)

So they can still sell their runs, but don't need to do 100% of the boxes, manuals & stuff ánd have happy customers at the same time!

No.  it's meant to curve.   The cockpit side wall is curved plywood.

Note the cockpit fitting are attached from the outside, screwed or bolted through the ply, as can be seen here

46178590554_1367cd4226_k.jpg17 Squadron 10 by Сергей Кривицкий, on Flickr

If you zoom the pic, the detail are very clear, visble screw heads etc.

To the left of the dogs neck a small fabric patch can be seen, with 'pinked' edges

The machine sporting this is YB-F of 17 Sq, July 1940

a rare P**** series Hurricane built with fabric wings,

3 other pics are here

https://www.flickr.com/photos/144949377@N05/albums/72157678154026658/with/46178589494/

There are 3 possible serials that are fabric winged and were at 17 Sq.

They're looking great Ced, and it's a very useful comparison between the kits.

Glad your thumb is healing so quickly. I did nearly the same thing a few weeks ago opening a package, and globbed some superglue onto the cut - it worked! (Also managed to spill some on my model and didn't notice til it had set, d'oh!)
