Finally completed, Italeri 1/72 Boeing–Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche.  Built almost completely OOB, airbrushed with Vallejo paints.  Pilots taken from an Airfix Hunting Percival Jey Provost kit (the only non-OOB part) as the kit didn't come with any and I wanted it in flight on a stand.  Stand was custom made by me from perspex sheet.  Thanks.

Finished is my Revell MBB/Kawasaki BK117 "Space Design".  Apparently this one, D-HBKS, features a colour scheme designed by Italian Luigi Colani, who is perhaps best known for the classic Canon T-90 camera.  It was built strictly OOB, painted mainly with Vallejo paints, but Tamiya clear blue was also used to create the metallic midnight blue colour (over the top of a mix of Vallejo gunmetal and black).  I really enjoyed this build, even though the decals were a bugger, because I just love the scheme.  It was the reason I impulse bought it while browsing Ebay.

Short and sweet on the pictures, as any more seemed repetitive.

1/72nd scale Extratech Sud Aviation Allouette II, XR232, Middle Wallop, 1964.

This is my second entry to this Group Build and uses the Extratech kit that appeared in 1998. The kit is made up from resin parts and a  vacformed canopy with most of the fuselage structure in etched brass that requires a lot of folding and with minimal joining surfaces. XR232 was  manufactured in 1961 and still survives, being on display at the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop. A bit of a challenge, but I am glad it is out of the stash and on the finished shelf.

Westland Lynx HMA8 built from the Hobbyboss 'Super Lynx' boxing. Airframe is OOB but there's a fair amount of Airwaves etch in the cockpit. Brush painted with Xtracrylix Medium Sea Grey and Humbrol Coal Black and finished off after the transfers witha coat of Liquitex Satin varnish.

Completed as one of the Black Cats Display Team of 702 NAS from RNAS Yeovilton. The transfers came from a Model Alliance sheet.

Westland Sea King HU5. Converted from an Airfix old mould HAS5. Some scratch built bits and other parts scavenged from the left over bits from other Sea King builds in the GB. Tamiya tape used for seat belts. Brush painted with Xtracrylix Medium Sea Grey and Signal Red (aka Red Arrows Red). Transfers from a ModelArt sheet which has markings for most Navy SARs.

Finished as XZ578 of 771 NAS at RNAS Prestwick (HMS Gannet) in 2009.

Quite challenging due due to the elderly nature of the base kit an dthe need to paint vast swathes of red. But enjoyable all the same. Has turned out nice and a little different from modern monotone liveries.

The MD-500 with the registration N58243 is well known from the TV series "Magnum".
I took Italeri's AH-6A Nightfox Kit and threw the whole weapon crap into the bin, made some stress with the paint job and some small parts myself. From a distance it looks quite good.

I know that I can do it better... but it could be worse, too.

Finished and can honestly say this thing spat problems at me constantly! In the end it was thrown together - and it shows!

B.Ae Harrier GR.7

ZD408, No.20(R) Squadron, RAF

Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base, Kuwait "Operation Telic", March 2003.

Airfix 1/72

When I met up with fellow Britmodeller Hockeyboy76 in February this year, he gave me one of his spare Airfix Club boxings of the Harrier which contained two kits - a GR.7 and an FA.2. Having previously built the FA.2 I decided to tackle the GR.7 for this groupbuild, now I know that there are better kits available but I thought that I would see what I could do with it using as much as I could out of the box along with a few basic improvements, and I feel that the end result looks pretty good tooled up.

It wasn't without issues, the nose section seems a little skinny for the canopy and the seat was a tighter fit than I had expected, so I replaced that with a Pavla resin Mk.12, but in hindsight spreading the rear of the nose a little would have alleviated both of those issues. I also added a suitable HUD from a Flightpath set and the AIM-9L's are from the later GR.7/GR.9 tooling. It was brush painted with Xtracrylix paints and the kit decals completed the decoration.

This is my Revell 1/144 CH-53 of the German military. It's a great little kit and was an enjoyable and fairly straightforward build - only the windows at the very end gave me any grief. I lost a couple as they popped out of the tweezers at the last minute, never to be seen again. The nosewheel doors were lost in a recent house move.

The build thread is HEER: (hahaha that never gets old):
