Italeri M3A1 White Scout Car

Recommended Posts

Ok, Type 89 is going to hit complex scratch building of bustle & slat armour so I will need something to take my mind off that so going to start ye olde Italeri M3A1. Should be out of the box ETO US version. May do some add-on stowage but the focus on this one will be fading & weathering....

photos at some point - will probably start later in the week

So taking a break from them Type 89 so started on this. Must say while there is no engine, there are enough linkages below to make it look busy. Some flash, some soft details, some oversized holes but, apart from that it is coming together. Plan is to paint it up OD< markings etc then do a whitewah (going for one in winter service as I need to try that scheme before I tackle the SU-122...

box & sprues

This is one of those golden oldies, a nostalgic journey. Those 70's and 80's italeri kits were pretty good and are still fun to build. Nice progress so far, I'm interested in the paintjob with whitewash.

Cheers,

Ernst.

this build has fought me a bit but it is getting close to being ready for painting. Think I am going to leave some of the smaller parts off for now so just need to finish the doors. Have some extra stowage to go on plus tried by own but it looks rather amateurish so think I will leave it off

Yes, when I did my IDF version, I only had to use the bottom half, but it was still a fight at times. That's why, for the next one, I'm using the Hobbyboss version. Good luck with the rest of the build.

Olive drab modulation on... photos look a lot greener than it actually is. Next up will be gloss & decals and then will try the hairspray technique for white wash

@robw_uk Hi Rob, the scout car looks great! I especially like the colour modulation which gives it a nice worn look.

Hi Rob, looks good. I would weather before adding the whitewash unless you're depicting a new vehicle that has whitewash added.

Wayne.

thanks all... think I will weather green now a little then apply white wash - makes sense - vehicle driven from depot to forward area (maybe slightly older) then whitewashed ahead of up coming winter maneuvers

Started weathering - panel line highlight. Also started on the stowage (not my best technique - couldn't really find a how-to on YouTube - any thoughts?)

battered... too battered??? (and battered literally - dropped it and front axle and drive shaft broke off - repair job needed). Also had a go at making stowage for the  windscreen shield and one wheel arch. Next stop hairspray and whitewash - maybe tomorrow

Still a really nice kit after all these years. I was lucky enough to find an Airfix boxed version a while back, a kit I had wanted since it was released but never managed to get.

I think the moulds are now with Zvezda?
